How to fix a patch in place until I oversew?

I have a sashiko machine and want to stitch down patches against a background cloth (like Wabi Sabi). Is there something that will hold them in place that I can remove later?  (Not pins or safety pins, something I can stitch over).

Heat 'n Bond Feather Lite - it's fusible both sides (used for appliqued)

Cant remove two sided fusi (or any fusi actually)

Why do you want to remove it?

I've got one of these

it's not supposed to gum up your needle so ok for machine sewing.

I've used that for appliqué @maliw. Works a treat.

Washaway Wondertape - does not gum up the needle and it's repositionable.

Not a big fan of using pins when sewing and I use this stuff for all sorts of temporary holding jobs eg. holding zips in place, really fiddley placements, Holding hems in place for stitching on unstable fabrics, etc.
Also I use it with my machine embroidery hoops (on the bottom of the inner hoop).
Love the stuff.
