SWAKOP - Sewing With A Kind Of Plan - 1.05. - 31.10.2019

Welcome to The Sewing Place’s 2nd SWAKOP contest. As last year we can have the option of early (31.10.2109) and late (30.11.2019) finishers. The early finishers would get extra votes as a reward.

You will make 2 groups of 4 or 5 coordinating garments. What they are is up to you and should suit your lifestyle. Mine would be dresses with coordinating capes or dusters, other would make skirts/trousers, tops and jackets... That’s entirely up to you. However, each group must have a colour theme.. Now the tricky bit, you will also make 1 bridge garment, a piece of garment that coordinates with both of your groups. This can be made in a neutral colour, a print, etc. Ideally it’ll be some sort of over garment (jacket, coat, cape, vest) that can be worn with most of the combinations you have in your groups.

So, everybody should have a collection of anything between 9 to 11 garments by the end of it.
1 item can be RTW
1 item can be a previously made garment (if 5ou’re on a RTW fast, you can include 2 previously made garments)

Here a few rules:
1. You can start with your muslins, fitting and cutting now - sewing starts on on May 1st.
2. Your clearly labelled submission post with pictures must be up here one week after you finished, i.e. on 7.11.2019 for early finishers, on 7.12.2019 for late finishers. I don’t set a limit for pictures, but there should be one image showing the whole collection.
3. You need to indicate your participation latest by September 15th with a post this thread.

Happy Sewing

I really love the idea of this, but I'm never sure if I'd be able to stay the course.  Life tends to throw me curved balls now and again...

I'll have a thunk, and see if I think it's do-able.

Jessie, who is very happy to be here!!  :),  but who has far too many sewing machines to be healthy, and a fabric stash which is becoming embarrassing.

No problem @Francesca, but dresses need to go with the bridge garment.

I love a wardrobe contest but I do currently seem adequately clothed plus I expect work to be very busy during that time frame, so I'll see nearer the time if I participate.
It is lovely to have the rules early, so lots of time for imagining the various approaches.

I'ma try this again.  My life has settled somewhat down since last year, so we'll see if I can manage to sew.

Nice- seems very like the SWAP rules from  3 or 4 years back which suited me FINE.  I love colour based rules best of all.
Great timing too- just as the 2019 SWAP is approaching the end [and I'm NEARLY done]

I like having at least a vague plan to organise my sewing ideas, so will let this marinate until after I get the Oz costumes for school done.  SHould work out nicely!
C'est moi!

I may join in, I'll have to see.  I've also been participating in SWAP 2019, and I'm sure I'll be worn out by the end of April.

But I do have some more time-intensive projects planned, perhaps they could morph into SWAKOP?

I do have a question.  Can the SWAKOP include other people?  I'm going to have to sew a portion of my DD's school clothes and wondered if this would fit the competition.

@Kwaaked, you can make a SWAKOP for another person. You can’t make a ‘shared’ SWAKOP though.

I should be back, hopefully, for another go this year as my wardrobe is still very basic - I haven't added to it since last year's SWAKOP so will be looking to fill out some gaps.

I'm into the final stages of preparing for an art exhibition, so haven't had any time for anything else for the past few months.  Just sneaking on here while I'm waiting for my final painting to finish scanning, to give me something to look forward to when this week is over.

It will be great to get back to some sewing - my brain can't get around the rules yet.  That's an indication of the state of my brain, not the rules themselves. They look great.  I'm sure once I can put aside all this painting and exhibition stuff, the wheels will start turning again.  Bring on May already!

Ah I see this has a long time frame. So I could manage something.
Thoughts
I'm enjoying teal and burgundy a lot
With navy
and maybe a sagey green colour

I bought some dark greeny grey fabric to make a thin summer coat
I need some thinner summer work trousers and probably some tops.
I will have a think!

@Manuela, have I got the right feel for the rules if I do a collection something like this:-

Bridge garment - coat in black or dark grey/green

Colour theme one - Safari
This includes olive and animal print pieces.

Colour theme two - Teal stripes
This includes black and teal stripes plus teal with silver stripes and maybe some plain black trousers

They can't really be worn with each other, but would all work with the coat.
I suppose my question is Safari as a colour theme OK or does it need to be a specific colour.
And is it OK to have black trousers in the Teal theme

@SewRuthieSews you got it perfectly right, looking forward to see your SWAKOP developing.
