Where to buy border prints and best uses?
« on: May 29, 2019, 18:39:22 PM »
Just saw this top and thought it was a good example of a simple top made special by use of a border print

https://www.phase-eight.com/product/seren-spot-blouse-501805055.html#&pid=501805055&pos=50&cgid=tops

I never think to look for border prints and wouldn`t know where to start looking.  Presumably you also have to be careful when working out how much fabric you need so as to make best use of the border?

Any thoughts?

Saris, although they may be  a bit lightweight for what you want.

I’ve looked everywhere for border prints...never found much at all.

I`ve found some now that I really like - but it`s quite expensive - and I don`t really know what to do with it.....

I made a skirt (simple straightish knee length skirt) with an Alice in Wonderland border print fabric I got from Spoonflower, you can see similar (yes it wan't my idea!) on the website.

I also saw an amazing mac made out of the same fabric, not sure if this link will work as it is on pinterest and my work PC bans it

I believe that raincoat was made by the amazing Manuela.   ;)

I've seen tops (can't find a pic just now) where the border is at the hem, with the middle of the print forming the upper part of the top.  Facings made from the border part can be reversed and topstitched onto the public side, or used in collars, cuffs, etc.

I actually made two Alice in Wonderland coats. The first one faded very badly (cotton sateen), so I bought the faux suede to make another one. The colours hold much better in this material.
@Samantha, the coat you linked to was the first one I made, I did the second one two years ago....

I like border prints.  I've made a couple of dresses, both have dirndle type skirts to make best use of the border print.

Also made a long tee shirt and a cardi using lightweight knits from The Textile Centre
