My Mum used to do beading, she used to make the tiniest little bags with beaded designs, so pretty!

I have a friend who is a jewellery maker and does the most gorgeous bracelets and necklaces using a technique called "Persian chainmaille" which consists of linking silver rings together in a certain way. She does "full Persian" and "half Persian", the half being flatter. I don't really know how she does it but I think the effect is beautiful and simple.

She did one using oxidised silver as well as normal polished silver and because of the way she loops them together, it sort of blended the colours together  rather than having a hard line where one colour stops and another starts. One day I want one with silver and an inch of gold rings but I think the cost would be well into the £500s :(

The amber one in my pictures is  chainmaille that weave is called Byzantine and it's actually quite relaxing - well that or I have a weird idea of what relaxing is  :D- it is my favourite weave and can be used in all sorts of ways and flows beautifully. I use sterling silver jump rings and you need about 175 6mm rings to make a bracelet so in gold that would cost around £450 just for the rings ( I fancied making one once !) when you add the time it takes to open and close all those rings anything less than close to £750 would be a bargain.
I have made a few now the amber one a plain one and one with just 2 pearls at either end, I really fancy making a necklace using it

Chainmaile jewellery takes concentration that I just don't have.  Tried and failed miserably to master even the basic techniques.  :(  In addition, to make it worthwhile you really have to use real silver as the plate rubs off quickly.

I have a pyramid cushion I made for resting my iPad on to save neck strain when using it on my knee it's filled with polystyrene beads and is ideal for resting the bracelets on whilst knotting the elastic, a surgeons knot and a dab of glue and they are really secure

I used to apply a dab of clear nail varnish.  Much easier to work and no danger of sticking things together.  0_0
