There is a local branch of QG here and a couple of people that I know are members. I know that they have speakers and someone sells fabric and they organise trips to the likes of the Malvern show. A friend who is a member has been to Houston a couple of times with people from there. I haven't joined as they do themed exhibitions and I don't like to feel that I have to do something I don't want to.

Have a look and decide for yourself. Like all these things it depends what you want. Members get The Quilter magazine 4 times a year and a quarterly regional newsletter. There are also specialist groups - extra to the basic subscription. You can get discounts from various traders. Most regions hold regional or area days a couple of times a year with speaker(s) and sometimes a workshop day too - typically £15-£20 for the regional days and more for a workshop which is usually on the following day. A lot depends on the size of the region and where the active committee members are. They try to have reps broadly spread over the region but if no one volunteers....no rep.

The "South West Region" of the QG doesn't extend as far as West Cornwall - says it all really.
