Stop worrying. It always looks awful when you've got your nose almost on it as you sew. Look at it from 'normal' distance and it won't look anywhere near as bad. We quilters have a nasty habit of thinking everything must be perfect (first time, too), and pointing out all the wobbly bits in case people hadn't noticed them (they hadn't till you mentioned it). Try not to get into these habits. It's a quilt. It will still be a quilt even if it has a few (minor, invisible) blemishes. Call it personality, quirkiness, whatever.
As StitchinTime says, shrinkage will help disguise any problems. With a walking foot, in theory, it should move the layers together so, in theory, you shouldn't get a 'bow wave' in front of the foot. If this is happening try to coax it under the foot as you go. I have found you can lose a little pucker at the seam line (but of course if you do that the quilt police might hammer on your door, though they haven't found me yet so you'll probably get away with it too
). Otherwise, try fmq (but that needs
practice - ah, the 'p' word
).
