Are wooden buttons washable?
« on: July 28, 2019, 20:12:24 PM »
I`ve just bought some pretty wooden buttons from Ebay

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252646467032

I was intending to put them on a blouse but I`m now wondering how well they will stand up to washing.  I`ve emailed the buyer to ask if they know ,but I wondered if anyone else has used them.  I`ve put some on a linen jacket previously but that hasn`t needed washing yet

What I have read is that you remove them for washing and put them back afterwards.
Yarn down:  1000g
Fabric down:  29m

I`ve just had a reply from the seller (on a Sunday evening!) saying they have sold lots for dressmaking and never had any complaints, and that they tested them in boiling water and they were fine!

I`m going to risk it - unless anyone here has had a bad experience - I can`t be bothered with taking buttons off every time I wash a garment

I got some unpainted wooden ones off ebay a couple of years ago, they've been washed a lot although only at 30 deg and still look like they did when they were new if that's any help.

I had some on a cheap duvet and they outlasted the fabric. They did fade a bit

I've never had a problem washing wooden buttons either.  My vintage shell ones, now, that's another matter.  I forgot about them when gaily throwing my lovely dress into the washing machine and the buttons shattered :(

I tested a wooden lacemaking bobbin in the washing machine once and it survived 0_0 so I don't see why wooden buttons wouldn't be ok, just be gentle with the washing and don't leave them soaking for hours.
