my failed fishy quilt project....

Oh no, what happened to the fishy quilt @Manuela ? I’ll have to go and look it up. Last time I looked it was going well... and you put so much work into it!

This quilt looks great!  0_0

Progress picture, all put together - happy with the way it looks so far.
I used a remnant of black seersucker as backing, so still not spent a penny on the quilt.

Still the binding to do. I’m thinking of 3/4” black binding, that would resemble like a narrow picture frame.

Have you thought about doing a facing instead of a binding? That would give the frameless appearance of the original picture.

I’d be worried about the bulky bits around the sashing there. The blue, red, yellow and black fabrics are cotton sateen, so fairly beefy. While I wouldn’t like a black border, I am happy with a narrow black binding.

It’s done, done, done. The picture is horrid, it looks a lot better ’in the flesh‘. I’m happy with the result, the quilt is 150cm x 120cm. I’ll probably make a cushion cover to go with it...

How did you layer it ???

My very, very, very first 'quilt'  .... the 1994 coverlet (and I really dont know why theres not a museum built around it) was made from furnishing fabrics and sateen curtain lining!!!

and layering was something only done with trifle at the time!!!!!

I taped the backing fabric onto the floor, put the quilt on top of it, pinned it and hand basted. That took almost half a day.

I never baste. I just use 505 spray ( liberally ) and pin the 4 corners

I don’t want to spray baste indoors, in the living room.

I doubt Mr Manuela would be happy if I did that. On top of it, the bedroom is fairly small - this is Hong Kong after all  ;)
