Scrappy binding

I am planning to make scrappy binding for my log cabin quilt and intended to join left over logs at 45 degrees to make it.  However I have come across this

Have you used this method?  Any advice gratefully received.   :*

@Pearl if that link goes to the lime green/grey tutorial then yes I have.
It works fine but there is still a fair amount of waste with it. I did different width strips for my (still unfinished) PL quilt.

I've used scrappy bindings joined together at 45 degree angles, and it works really well. The technique you linked to looks good as long as you have enough fabric. I've always found I only have scraps (literally) so have had to do it the hard way. I've bookmarked the link though for future use. :)
