Drafting a coat collar ?
« on: September 19, 2019, 12:16:30 PM »
Hello !
I recently tried this coat on in a store and I really liked the fit. Well defined shoulders , long enough and trendy relaxed shape and collar. However, it's only offered in colors I'm not fond of.

I found Burda 6987 in my pattern box and I wonder if I could add a collar to it. The manufactured one was a shawl collar, I mean cut in the same piece as the front and no collar stand. Your opinion and advice ? Thank you !

Here is a basic shawl collar draft, you can change the actual shape easily

And a video of the same method with a slight modification that allowscthe collar to lie more flat at the back

Hi Sizun, I was just browsing the new Butterick patterns and I saw this pattern and it reminded me of your post, where you were looking for a pattern, similar to a ready made coat you had seen?

This appears quite good, what do you think? Have a look at the line drawings.

@Lizzy777 thank you ! However the Butterick one is more tailored than the one I tried on. There are lots of loose coats this season, some of them really look like nightgown and you have to add carefully chosen details to make the difference. >:)
