Pillowcases for Mom
« on: February 18, 2024, 17:42:10 PM »
My mother lives in a long-term care facility. She recently asked me to order her a King-size pillow & 2 pillowcases. In the interest of seeing that the pillowcases get back to her, from the laundry, I embroidered her name on them.

She chose the colors & I like her choices.

Thanks everyone!  My mom had made the need for personalizing clear when she wanted to use a marker to write her name on the quilt I had made her. I was having none of that, so I took it home & embroidered a piece of the same fabric I had used for the backing & appliquéd it on.

From now on, I will personalize any textiles I buy or make for her.

I like the embroidery you did on the pillow @Sara-S, a lovely colour and font.
My mother was quite incensed at one point when she saw another 'inmate' wearing her (my mother's) favourite blouse despite it being clearly marked on the label. Having visited the laundry room at the place she was living I could see why it could happen.

No, just A Sara SIlverman.

I did wonder, given your robust response to the Quilt Police!  The other Sara S would have lambasted them too :-)

As far as I know, the better-known Sara & I are not related.  Silverman is a pretty common name around here.

But we are all a feisty lot.

That's great @Sara-S

@realale how sad for your mum. Was the laundry room chaos?

We had the same thing in the first home that Plosh's and my Mum stayed in @realale  :(

One afternoon we found when we went in that she had no clothes to put on and was still in her pyjamas. You had to go to the laundry room and rummage through rails and baskets to find missing items. It would have helped if they'd said before she went in that clothes should be robustly labelled not 'oh, biro on the label is fine'. Also if they had noticed that Mum's stuff was ending up in the room of a lady with a similar surname.

When searching for a permanent residence we made sure they had a decent system!

Great pillowcase - hope she treasures it. Very Smart!

Two years ago I sent my mother a pillowcase (as she wanted). The memory care home she is staying in lost it... They said they searched for it (along with my then - alive father) and did not find it. Along with her missing jewelery...
...it was a Hobbit hole, and that meant comfort.
