Christmas is coming
« on: October 05, 2019, 12:15:18 PM »
I would love to make my daughter a Christmas tree wall hanging - she hasn't very much room and last year they just hang their lights on the wall
I would want it to be between 5 - 6 foot tall but not very wide.
I have seen a kit on cotton patch for £85 which is far more than I can pay.
Please has anyone any ideas how I can do this, At the moment i haven't a clue

the sewing, quilting isn't the problem - the design is

The kit from Cotton Patch is foundation paper pieced.  So you could find a fpp pattern, enlarge/elongate it to the required size and use fabric from your stash.

As  am very new what does fpp mean? - I know you are all now having a larf  :D Flo told me it was the abbreviations that are hardest to work out

Can you adapt this .....

Christmas wreath

into a tall thin blocked tree shape, follow the destructions and hey presto ...

Be warned; the original blocks shrink mightily so you need to make it over sized to what you want in the end.

I did a quick look on Pinterest and found these
I'd think you're bound to find something you could adapt.

The TLAs are a PIA  0_0 (Three letter abbreviations are a pain in the ass! Everyone complains when they join.)

And here's a version of Imi's idea.

I looked at that version of Imi's and saw something I quite liked on the page. Why i hadn't seen it when  was endlessly going through the ideas I don't know

I can easily elongate that and it sort of fits I have until WEdnesday next week to decide and work out yardage - trip to Doughty's with a friend  :)

Just had another look and I  also quite like this one  https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/539728336572834136/ looks quick and easy

Thanks for your help  :)

I believe FPP stands for foundation paper piecing.  I have no idea how to do it; It’s just something I’ve heard of.

With thanks to you for pointing me in the right direction. The pattern I really love is American ie the Cottonpatch one - It can be bought over internet but I have not that much time and I don't know how long it would take to get an expensive pattern.
So I have taken a basic pattern (not my first choice) and  adapted it, it has become thinner and a little taller. It still needs tweeking but at least I know where i am going  now

Just need to work out fabric yardages now
