Combining Prints/Patterns Contest 1.11.2019 - 30.11.2019
« on: October 20, 2019, 08:56:31 AM »
Welcome to the Combining Prints/Patterns contest, the last contest this year. The aim is to combine prints or patterns such as stripes, dots, plaids, florals.... anything goes really as long as you combine at least 2 prints creatively, meaning not only the collar of cuffs. The contest is open to all categories, garments, cut and piece, bags, home decor... - all is welcome. This is an excellent opportunity to use up leftover fabrics from previous projects  :D

As usual a few rules:

1. You shall sew a minimum of one piece - it can be anything, garment, accessories, soft furnishings, quilts, etc.
using at least two different prints
2. If you want to make more than one entry, feel free to do so, but submit them in separate posts
3. Please clearly indicate what , if any, pattern you used and what, if any, changes you made
4. You don't need to use a commercial pattern, self drafted is fine
5. Sewing starts on November 1st, you can prepare & fit the pattern and cut before that date
6. Sewing finishes on November 30th please post pictures by December 7th
7. Please use the template below when you submit your entry post

(your name)'s Entry (indicate the number if you have more than one entry  ;))

What did you make and how did you play with the prints/patterns?

Pattern used (commercial or self-drafted, anything goes)

A short description on how you made it/problems overcome/etc.

Pictures (ideally included in the text, but I can do that for you if needed)

Happy Sewing

Mmmmm combining prints.
So far no ideas whatsoever.... oh wait a moment  :[
@Manuela does it count as a print if its a pattern that's been woven into the fabric?
I have a set of jacquard knits in black and red which would play quite nicely together.

Yes, it does indeed @SewRuthieSews
I edited the introduction post to clarify the issue.

This is almost any quilting project! I’m pushing myself to finish some of my bigger projects at the moment so not sure I’ll actually finish anything this month.

Perfect reason to make another dress for my granddaughter. I have the fabric already, just haven't gotten to it yet.

@Manuela, is it OK to use plain fabrics as well as the two prints or must in only have prints/patterns?

Yep, @SewRuthieSews, plain fabric is fine, if there are at least 2 prints involved.

I really should have read ahead to know this contest was coming up... alas that I started my sewing on my current project on October 20 and not on November 1! I am making a scrappy/collaged cardigan from four assorted knit fabrics (leftovers from other projects), overlaid with shibori dyed silk chiffon, and with varied stencil motifs to tie the whole thing together... The cardigan is a bit of a stretch for me, since I don't usually do any "color-blocking" but I am trying to channel my inner Tilton sisters, and I think I am getting somewhere with it.
Maybe if I have enough time once this is finished, I can make a coordinating scrappy/collaged knit top to wear under it, for a kind of "art teacher twinset", and enter that knit top... hmmmm...

Wow! Your cardigan looks great so far @indigotiger - I can't wait to see the finished product. I do hope you get to enter something - the twinset sounds like a great idea.

My cardigan, now finished, was started too early to be part of this contest.
I have been working on a coordinating "cloud collar" motif long sleeve knit top, using some of the same fabric pieces, and adding in a few more. There are six different fabrics used: grey floral cotton knit, grey/white marled hemp knit, black/cream marled hemp knit, black interlock, black/cream striped ribbing, and grey/lt blue stripey hemp knit. I am not quite finished with the top, it still needs the bottom hemline reinforced, and another strip of grey/lt blue stripey fabric stitched between the reverse applique and the neckline binding

@indigotiger

That's just so lovely. Beautifully designed and made too. I like the colour and textures very much.
You must be really pleased the way it has worked out too?
