Shot cotton

Has anyone used "shot cotton" for backing? I was at the local big Haby store this morning and amongst all the quilting fabrics were some bolts of "shot cotton 100%". It was lovely soft fabric, but a good 25% more than the price for standard quilting cotton fabric. I thought it would be lovely to use for backing but haven't had any experience with it...anyone else?

What is it though?  Full of bullet holes, or made of two different coloured threads?

and have used a shot cotton by Pepper Cory

The most important thing to remember as these get their colours  from weaving rather than dyeing, they do tend to fray much more freely.

Shot silk is plain weave with one colour for the warp threads and a different colour for the wefts which makes the fabric appear to change colour as it turned; you see more warp colour then more weft colour.

Shot cotton is, I would think, much the same.  Cambric comes to mind.
