Which threads.....
« on: April 12, 2020, 15:20:04 PM »
Now that thread suppliers are shutting up shop, I am having difficulty replenishing supplies. Up to now I have used exclusively Madeira but now cannot get it. Jaycotts can still supply 200m reels of rayon, albeit slowly, but 1000m cops seem to have dried up. Both Lords and Barnyarns have pulled down the shutters so I am now looking to another manufacturer. I placed a small order with Marathon, which they dispatched the same day. Unfortunately Royal Mail are delaying that one, as they are with my latest Jaycotts order.
Has anyone experience with Marathon threads to say whether they are worth purchasing as I have a 30 cop order which I need to place somewhere very soon.
Or any suggestions for another manufacturer?

@Wychall  Empress Mill is still open for online orders. I use their cotton thread but haven't tried the embroidery thread, might be worth trying.

@Kad Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately the Empress range of threads is too limited in palette, 90 colours as apposed to the 370 that I am used to with Madeira.

I remember @Iminei asking about threads recently. She rates the Marathon as ok.

Have you checked EBay? There are a few Madeira sellers like this one. Of course you might want to message them first to check they're still fulfilling orders.

Marathon threads are fine.  I use them as well as Gutermann Sulky, Madeira, Mettler and also use Isacord which is sold here. I’ve used this site a lot.

@Wychall as my Brother embroidery threads run out I have been replacing them with Marathon threads. Most of the embroidery on my last dress (see the wardrobe) uses marathon threads. I buy the from BSK who are still processing orders. My last order, middle of last week, arrived on Saturday.
The marathon site also have a comparison table although I have found that a couple of the marathon threads do not match the colour of the brother threads, the lilac and dark grey, so it is a bit of a gamble if you need an exact match.
It's not easy being this perfekt

@sewmuchmore Thank you for your reply. I was 99% decided to go with Marathon. Now I've got to decide whether to order from Marathon direct, or to go with BSK who are cheaper. Decisions, decisions.

I placed an order for 20 cops with BSK at 12.35 today. Had an email from them at 12.39 to say it was despatched. Had another email from DPD at 2.00pm to say they would be delivering to me tomorrow. Absolutely astounding service.
