There are some freestanding butterflies on Embroidery Library although I don't know whether they include the ones Iminei has so beautifully made.

OK, 1/4" and 3/8" rare earth magnets. My sources are of course US. The one I would have recommended, Lee Valley Tools, was I thought too pricey. The other, Harbor Freight Tools, doesn't ship International as far as I can see. I shop them in person, as they're next door to my Doctor's office.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

Four butterflies

God they take an age to stitch and the amount of thread!!!

Flipping fabulous.

I bet you daren't leave them too close to The Moo.  I can just see them being tossed into the air to see how high they fly.

@Gernella  I'm afraid the Moo is far too much of an old lady to be fussing around with anything like that these days ....
but she was a one in her youth!

They are beautiful, and that lovely fireplace is the ideal place to showcase them.   0_0

They surprise you sometimes @Iminei , our old lady 17 this year certainly knows how to put the young un in his place, he daren't go near her when she's curled up somewhere, sleeping or not.

@Sakar and anyone else who might like to know ....

how much thread and time does Elvis need for such a little wonder?

A SHOCKING amount!!!!!!

Each butterfly takes an hour and a quarter upwards with the most stitches so far being 46,963 stitches for this lil beauty....

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

which has 8 separate colours and 11 colour changes!!!

I stitch them in 3's or 4's depending on which I choose and use my 12" x 7" hoop.
I did (start) to video the process but it takes so long!

The main body of the wings take the most thread and I have lots of 1000m cones of Madeira in various browns, blues etc just for that part... as I want to preserve the beauty and integrity of my Treasure Chest!! Tho' I do use those reels for details on the butterflies that take between 1 and 5 minutes to stitch.

They take longer than the advertised time (on the machine) as I have to unhoop and change the bobbin thread between each different colour

That is the reverse of the butterfly!

I do love them and have some vague idea of selling them but ££££ !!!!

I've seen smaller versions with bobbin thread showing on the reverse and a  brooch barthing hotglued to the reverse in an arty crafty place in Salisbury which were being sold at around £26 !
