This afternoon have cut out a grey and black matelasse stable knit animal print fabric to make Sew Simple cocoon shape dress. New to me pattern and I've not done a toile so we'll see....

I plan for it to be a sort of pinafore to wear with a black polo neck top.

@Manuela would a dolphin print qualify?

Yep @BrendaP, dolphin = animal, so it’s an animal print  ;)

Thanks for the education @Lizzy777:| My plan is to enter the floral contest and jungle flora is now a possibility.  :)

Great!

I cut it out last weekend and started sewing it together on Friday, but can't do much more now until the parcel containing an open ended zip arrives, other than the 'buttonholes' for the cords in the hood.

The sleeves are still stupidly long but I'll leave them until last and will adjust once the zip is in and the hood completed.  Construction-wise  I used cream thread in the overlocker, but I'm not sure what colour to use for top stitching.  Cuffs and lower hem will be black thread, hood will be cream but what about the zip?  The zip itself will be charcoal grey.

I wasn't trying to educate! I just googled and shared the info? I was interested when Brenda asked Manuela if Dolphins could be included. If you found the articles interesting too, then thats great! :)

UPDATED
The Wave Pocket Market Tote

Pattern Used
The free pattern was found sometime ago at Sew4Home

The fabric used was bought at a local quilt shop. I found the cat fabric and then laid fabrics with it until I got what I wanted. The fabric for the piping was from the stash.

A short description on how you made it/problems overcome/etc.

I followed the instructions but did not want 4 small pockets on the front. I did three and put a snap to close the larger center pocket on the front of the bag. The pocket has sewn divisions which made it easy to change from 4 to 3.

The inside of the bag has a pocket in it which is a nice addition.

I followed the remaining instructions carefully until I got to the handles. They were not finished to my standards so I made my own handles. I did attach them as per the instructions.

I found my cat buttons so here is the bag with the black cat button on it.

Two things I would do differently the next time are:
  • Interface the front pockets with shirt weight interfacing rather than fleece
  • Do the handles 4" wide and fold until 1" wide. This makes the handles finished rather than showing interfacing on the wrong side of the handles.

I absolutely love the looseness of the qualifying "rules" for this. It really expands the possibilities and that seems to be getting a lot of participation going. Good idea @Manuela   :toast:.

There is still hope. I've got some fabric out, a leopard print poly chiffon.  Also a hideous tiger print. :) More importantly, I sewed yesterday. In a class at a mega sewing machine store. First time set down in front of a machine since February 2 years ago. I looked at the calendar and I've got 9 days with nothing specific on them, so, maybe......

PS: I also now want Bernina's newest serger, the L 460. Highly recommend. Only costs 10 times what my serger costs. Excellent fine adjustments and shockingly quiet.
Hey Bill! Read the manual!  Hehehe.

I also have some leopard print chiffon, the only trouble is that I have put it in a Safe Place and probably won't find it before February. Pity because it might have got me motivated to make it up this month.

Yes, well  @toileandtrouble , when I posted that I'd gotten the fabric out, that was just in my mind, as I know I'd seen it recently, so it had to be near the surface. Went to get a pillowcase last night and it was on the shelf above.  :toast:

The ugly tiger is still in hiding. Might find other suitable fabric while looking for it.

I think it was @Puzzler who said her stash was scattered about like a squirrel hides nuts. I thought 'me too' but it seems we're not the only ones..!!!  0_0

I'm pretty sure I have a qualifying fabric...but where?!?!?

I've cut my project out but then got distracted with something else, which I cut out and partly completed. Hmmm.
Anyway there's still over a week of January left so plenty of time!

If anyone can get it done, you can @SewRuthieSews!   :)
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I'm struggling with mine, not very inspired with it so far....... Maybe my mojo has gone south too.

I'm now almost there with it.  :)

This isn’t an entry as I don’t think it meets the qualifications ( I cut it out in December ready for a shirt-making workshop which had to be postponed until February) but I thought I’d post it here for interest/ inspiration purposes.

I made the Closet Case Kalle shirt dress which I then decided to shorten to shirt length originally posted in “In the Wardrobe”. I decided I would get more use of it as a shirt.
