Going a bit funny in my old age I've been looking for the above machine, partly because I have a brochure for it but went for the computer model 7000 back  around 1992.

Looking, I came across this.  When you look at it, it looks like it is brand new and obviously well looked after.  If it had been postage and not collection I would have been sorely tempted.  There's not even any  fading on the paint work.

As you say, a very tidy machine that one. Typical that the nice ones are never on your doorstep. Having said that, I have just bagged a Singer 513 off ebay. 2 miles away and only 99p!

The New Home 331 was the first machine that I owned. I bought it in 1979 from John Lewis I think. I used it for years (until about 2012). It made fabulous 4 step buttonholes but it was very inconsistent when doing straight stitch and I frequently struggled with nesting underneath the stitch plate. I wouldn't touch another one with a barge pole

@StitchinTime I have finally got my hands on my 99p machine. It is very nice and clean, cosmetically, and passed its PAT test. Plugged it in and gave it a whirl.... Oh well, what can you expect for 99p. It ran very slowly, so needs lube. Then the motor started to smell.... Oh look, the bobbin hook isn't turning... And the stitch length dial is seized solid. Pop the base off, ooo look at all the gear teeth lying loose. Dentures needed here.

All in all, a nice challenge for me to resurrect. What does annoy me however is that there was no mention of it's non functionality in the eBay listing so it could easily have been bid to a higher price and sold to someone without the necessary technical skills. How disappointed would they have been!

Oh dear, @Wychall , sorry to hear it was not as described. I wonder if people think if the needle goes up and down a few times it means a machine is in working order (or perhaps I am being too optimistic about human nature).
