Thanks for your input, Plosh. The problem I have is that I don't have any more of the blue in photo 1, so if I went with photo 1, I would need to track down more or swap to the other blue.

I was going to add random red blocks .... but errrm you know me and random!!!
I plan on putting white strips between the rows...maybe getting incrementally wider from a centre point...
which will of course enable me to QAYG it!!
And I have a quandary......please help me.
My life has not been like most girls as my mum died when I was 15 and family life basically ceased soon after.
I was on my own and by the time I was 19 I was living by myself in a flat ... with a double bed.
Lucia my gorgeous niece, the intended recipient, turns 21 next March. She currently splits her time with her mum and dad in Nottinghamshire (single bed) and in University digs in Italy (single bed) (Did I mention her dad is Italian?!)
The quandary is .........Do I make this as a single or a double ???

While a single would be more useful to her atm, in the future, a double would probably be. Therefore, I'd make it a double.
Please could you explain what you are going to do with the strips and how that means you can QAYG?

I would be able to limit the bulk of the quilt passing through the harp by quilting it in 2, 3 or 4 strips and joining them afterwards.

I would be tempted to make a double or a small double but not as small as a single if that makes sense. Something she can wrap herself up in if the need arises or sit flat on a bed/or as a throw on a sofa.

I've never actually made one (although I'm thinking of the idea for the African Animal quilt I'm doing) but how about a quillow? It would be ideal for any sofa surfers that young people get a lot of these days. It can still function as a quilt but the neat truning into a cushion keeps it a bit more versatile.
Otherwise, yes I agree with what others have said, go for the double but not a huge one!

I managed this today. Not sure about the colour but it was the best I had on hand. Does it look right to you? I'm not sure about it.
