:| Thank you everyone for the comments, you really made me blush. I usually let the fabric ‘tell’ me what it wants to be. Sometimes it takes some time before it tells me, this fabric chose immediately what it wants to be.

I love the idea of fabric saying what it wants to be  Some of my fabric sits in a cupboard for years and doesn't say a word let alone tell me what it wants to be.  :D

I have one very quiet fabric - it’s beautiful, but doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s a lovely black and white houndstooth boucle I had for some years now.

Quite a lot are badly behaved  and shout "Me! Me! Me next Miss!"  and I have some that says "Yah, fooled you!"

I think we must shop in the same places @toileandtrouble...  ><
I might look as though I'm talking to you, but inside my head I'm sewing.

I have some fabric which says: I'm fed up sitting in your cupboard for years I want a new owner. So I took it to the fabric rehoming centre aka charity shop.

The only time fabric shouts at me is when it's still in the shop. It's very loud then. But once I give it a forever home it behaves impeccably, just sitting there quiet as the proverbial.

The second dress is finished. I didn’t use the tiers the pattern provided and I thought they will be too bulky/unflattering and would’t allow for pocketses. I like the A-line shape with gathers from View A, so I went with that and shortened it by 10cm/4”. Then I added a 12” wide tier from all the leftover border I had. I underlined the bodice and the upper tier with (almost) matching cotton voile.
Ideally it should be gathered a bit more, but I ran out of fabric.
I’m happy with the dress and will make another one in white - with trims.
