Like Briar Rose, I saw lovely comments on PR about the tone of these forums.  (I'm mmcp on PR for those of you in both places.)

My daughter went to school in London, got married and now calls the UK home, so we've been coming over for years. We shop together for fabric in between all the parks and museums and I finally talked her into taking a sewing class, which she loved. Of course, I have been suggesting (nudging?nagging?) that she buy a sewing machine, and I was hoping that the next time I visited, I could go shopping with her to buy one but clearly that is not going to happen any time soon.

Thank you for letting me come along here, and feel as though there was another place I could be virtually on the same side of the pond.

Welcome.  I hope you like our little place and don't find the language barrier too taxing.  Interpreters can be provided should the need arise.  :D
