Any one else had their email this morning?
About their new antimicrobial fabric that prevents the spread of bacteria??

OOh, that'll be useful you think, especially with this virus going around.

NO!!!!!  Read on, further down the page they do actually say

Antimicrobial means the growth of microorganisms is inhibited, in this case bacteria. This reduces the breeding ground for viruses, however, the Trevira Bioactive fibres are NOT effective against viruses.

So many people do not understand the difference between a bacterial infection and a viral infection which is one of the reasons it has become difficult to treat a bacterial infection. The over and often unnecessary use of antibiotic medication has resulted in resistant bacteria thus rendering some antibiotics useless!

A viral infection may render a patient more susceptible to succumbing to a bacterial infection and there antibiotics may be prescribed as a prophylactil precaution.

Pity the poor GP trying to explain this to a patient or relative who is anxious and concerned and feels the doctor must do something!
