ISO pattern for housecoat
« on: April 10, 2020, 11:10:03 AM »
I'm looking for a pattern for an "old-fashioned" housecoat to wear during the day instead of leggings and tops.
I find leggings make me too hot so I want a dress which is reasonably loose, to make up in 100% cotton (or viscose), but not maxi-length.
I realise there are millions of patterns out there, but I wondered if anyone has suggestionss that spring to mind.
Thanks in advance.

A straight up/down shirtdress sounds ideal  :)
Let it sew, let it sew, let it sew

Style Arc have lots of loose dresses, they come in multisize and single size pdfs. They have a sale until 15 April.
A day without sewing is a day wasted.

Lots of loose dress patterns here.  This

leapt out at me because I really like the striped fabric.  Personally, I think there is a lot to be said for the kaftan.  0_0

I have my eye currently on McCalls’s 8030 - doesn’t need fitting and looks lovely...

@UttaRetch
This pattern dates back to the mid-1970s and was great to wear.

I made a nightie at school very much like view b, but without the sleeves.  The yoke and straps were broderie Anglais with the body being sheersucker.  That was the second garment I made after the inevitable apron.  I don't remember making anything else and perhaps sewing was only available for one term.

@UttaRetch -  I also made a nightdress that sounds very similar, Style 1797, at school and I still have the pattern as it's been used many times over the past fifty or so years.  I've made countless nightdresses both for me and friends and I also made it as sundresses for one friend.

I reckon I made mine in 1971/72.  Now that I think about sewing in school, I'm not sure that I didn't also make a tea towel that involved embroidery.

I too made a very similar nighty at school although it was in the early 60s! From memory it must have been a copy of a pattern as I can remember drawing out the pieces in class. Maybe it came from a magazine at the time.
