In the wardrobe / That feeling when..
« on: January 06, 2018, 14:47:18 PM »
You've been fiddling about overlocking a sleeve into the armhole, cutting off your excess seam allowance - and you are using stretch crushed velvet that is a slippery sucker and curls up so you have a gazillion clips and the velvet has decided to ladder - grrrrr - and you get round to the beginning and only then realise that a thread has busted right back at the beginning and you've been sewing nothing! :S

Vintage Machines / Would it be really naughty of me...
« on: December 27, 2017, 17:12:45 PM »
Was talking to an acquaintance the other day ( not a friend) and she just happened to mention she has 2 quote " old sewing machines, very small, Singer"  that her gran left her that she doesn't want. Oh say I casually, send me a photo I' might be  interested.  She has 2 beautiful Featherweights - original cases, lots of attachments. I've offered her 100 euros for one of them, MrC said I ought to buy them both and sell one on. Have I been mean and under offered  d'ya reckon, or might I just be getting something after which I have lusted for a long time??

In the wardrobe / Victory Patterns - jackie
« on: December 16, 2017, 16:50:33 PM »
Had a sudden rush of blood to the head and thought at 2o'clock it would be a good idea to make this dress to wear tonight. Crushed velvet - stretch - and to add a bit of tension to the project  a lace -over lay on the centre back panels and raw edged insert in all the seams. No worries - what was I thinking?

Got it cut out OK  and started applying the lace - stretch - onto the crushed velvet - stretch - like that was a brilliant idea Jan - it's wound up looking like a road traffic accident. Can't yet figure out how to  apply the facings...... and it's stretching and slipping ...... and the edges are all curling up.....  :S

D'ya know what? I'll wear something else. ><

The Show Must Go On / Back to the grind again.
« on: November 19, 2017, 19:03:30 PM »
Costume hat back on again, but this year I have put my foot down with a firm hand and said "no" to a lot of stuff. SO no practice skirts (10) no crossover tops (19)  no adult flounced skirts (13) Considering last year I had 110 dresses to make I consider myself better off this year. Haven't calculated exactly how many there are but  gonna be easier on me this year.

Anyone here subscribe to this one? Just had a teaser via my email and whilst it looks interesting I wonder if it's worth the 78$ US for 6 copies per year?  Thoughts??

Fun with Fabric / Cork fabric
« on: July 26, 2017, 17:31:59 PM »
Has anyone worked with cork fabric? I'm really tempted by some  from a Greek supplier to make a bag - that Round-a-bout bag from So Sew Easy - the freebie one.  Don't want to rush in too fast though - that's half my trouble - jump first and think later.

Access All Accessories / Memory loss
« on: July 24, 2017, 23:30:21 PM »
Following on from my mega tidy, I decided to make a bag today - I found a strap from a previous project and a magnetic fastener - what else did I need. I rooted out some fabrics and lining and then out came the Bosal which I hadn't used since I made  my holiday bag for Australia 18 months back. Cut myself a pattern , cut out the Bosal and couldn't for the life of me remember how to fuse or even which side was sticky, it's been that long. Fortunately was saved by Google! Bit worrying to have forgotten something so basic. Think I will put a label on it now!  Bag not finished yet, need some pliers to flatten out the fastener legs and couldn't be bothered looking - will finish tomorrow and post a pic.

The Show Must Go On / She wants this:
« on: July 15, 2017, 14:15:05 PM »
Strapless - flamenco - what could go wrong??

The voile tunic is separate and that's what she wants so she can use it over other stuff.

I was thinking of making the dress in 2 pieces to reduce the drag on the bodice  ( there's about 8 metres of fabric in the skirt alone)   I suggested a nude mesh yoke but that got shot down. However, perhaps she'd accept clear lingerie straps just as  a  safety stop! If I can persuade her to go this way I can make the dress as a one piece. Could do a built-in bra.

I think stretch cotton sateen would work with a stretch lining. Was considering boning but then she won't be able to breathe and dance!

In the wardrobe / Sewing for me!
« on: May 22, 2017, 20:37:28 PM »
Had a good day today  - made a top, a skirt and a pair of  trousers. Trousers not quite done as the stretch fabric stretched out too much at the ankles ( pattern Love Notions Sabrina Slims) as I was hemming so I unpicked and pressed and re-squared them up to find I have no Wonder Tape until my pal comes from England next week with it.   Then I'll have a picture session.  Am planning to make a Style Arc  Savannah tomorrow.

The Show Must Go On / Starting new set of dresses.
« on: April 16, 2017, 14:16:51 PM »
Suffice to say I have 3 girls who are about 82-85 bust, one at 90, me at 95, one at 120  and one who is 136.  Heights very from  150 to 200.

How to make something that fits with the choreographer's idea but looks good on all these shapes? Not judging -just a bit scared! ( Oh and  they are all in lycra!) I may be gone some time! :gin:

Fun with Fabric / P-p-pick up some p-p-p-purple!
« on: April 14, 2017, 23:00:53 PM »
Here's one for all you fabric watchers  - I'm after purple or violet cotton  or poly cotton poplin. Need it to be a good weight, not the very flimsy stuff.  Also need the same in fuchsia to  line the thing. Any ideas please?
