which as we all know is a Japanese Rice Bag!!!
or in our case, A Darksiders FQ, Threads or Bits and Bobs Bag!!!
The pattern for this bag is detailed and available as a free download
here, from the Oakshott fabrics (https://www.oakshottfabrics.com/collections/free-downloadable-patterns/products/pattern-for-komebukuro-bag) website
This will run from today, 16th June until the end of July
I know we have had interest already from some of our Darksiders
and I am planning on offering this event to The Accessorisers in Access All Accessories
This event is solely for you to make something lovely for yourself,
learn a new technique and show off your skills.
Do we remember we loooove pics!!!
If you haven't got access to a printer (hhmmhhmm @Lowena )
I will be happy to print and post a copy to you

I plan to make the 9 inch bag and have been trying to decide which fabrics to use...currently have four little piles of various coloured fabrics sitting on the floor. Not 100% happy with any of them.
I might be over-thinking this... :[
If I use pile A...(or pile B), I think it'll be alright...It's difficult to imagine how all the fabrics will work together, but I'm trying to use lighter and darker fabrics paired up with a lighter/brighter square.
I'll go and peg the washing out and think a bit more.

I made one. No drawstring though. Used up a lot of scraps that I've had around for several years.
-
Ooooh...look! Kopparberg. 0_0
Nice work, Fajita. Isn't there a lot of fiddly, piddly bits in it?
I've assembled the lining for mine. Changed my mind a further time on the fabrics. I've done a different colourway on the lining than I'm going to use for the outer.
I've started to pin some of the outer strips together. There are so many bits that I'm worried they may become misplaced if I leave it lying around for too long.

Mine is the smaller one. I didn't wad or quilt it, or put in a drawstring.
I think once you know what you're doing you could make a second one much more quickly.
It is very nice once it's done. I like it more than I thought I would.
I just have to find a use for it now
-
Very nicely done Fajita, Im yet to start, Ive never made a bag before -< :S
-
I'm hoping to give this a go if I've got some suitable fabrics
-
I've printed off the pattern .... that's a start ... no telling (or promising) when it will be made.
Is this too ambitious for a first-ever patchwork project for a novice ?

Hello Annieg. :)
It's a bit fiddly with lots of bits to it. I don't know how experienced you are, but there are easier first-time projects to try.

Er, why do they have to have my name and address for a free download?

Hi Sandra - do you have any specific recommendations for a first time?

I dont know sewingsue ... if you want I'll send you a copy.
I'll need your name and address tho' ;)
Its just part of their checkout procedure .. if you ordered a postable item such as fabric they would need your address ... in the end it says no payment required and gives you a file to download, which I did on your behalf ... hopefully you will find it in an email from me!

S'OK, told myself I was being daft and carried on :|

@annieg If you look through the BOM's...( Block of the Month)... you'll find some wonderful, clear, step by step tutorials done by Iminei. There are over a years worth to choose from.
These will give you a helpful starting point and many of them are easier to make than this bag.
Or...if you especially want to make a functional item....you could simplify the bag and just do the nine-patch inner and outer. That's do-able. It'd be a lot simpler to make than all these strips.
Good luck. I hope you join in.

"....and just do the nine-patch inner and outer....."
Thanks Sewing Sue - that's a good idea and I think I will try that option.

Sandra not me, Annieg.
I wouldn't dream of giving advice On the Darkside (or anywhere else - well maybe in the café, but not for sewing)
-
Apologies for the confusion and thank you Sandra for your suggestion.

I'm done. :)
Decided to use purple and pink fabrics for the lining, and blues, turquoise and greens for the outer. There are quite a lot of pieces to cut out for this. ><

I found an old piece of pre-used wadding for it, and I also found a suitable piece of pre-used cord...so I'm feeling quite pleased I haven't spent any money on it.
Wadding was a bit heavier than it probably should have been, but I quite like how boxy my bag is.

That's lovely Sandra, especially the lining fabrics.
I tried to sort out some fabrics today and just got my head in a spin so gave up.
-
I'm not into bags at all, but the fabrics in yours @Sandra just make it sing. <3 It's beautiful. What are you going to use it for?
-
It's lovely, @Sandra
And a cord!
And wadding!
....slinks off to the half assed hall....

Exquisite Sandra, exquisite!!!!

Thank you for your comments. :)
I've no idea what I'm going to use it for. It's quite roomy so I'm glad I did the 9 inch bag and not the 12 inch. If I leave it lying around for long enough I'll find a use for it.
Daughter asked me yesterday why I make such 'pointless things'... >< She didn't say it as unkindly as that sounds.
It isn't pointless. I spend very little of my time sewing just for the fun of it. I told her I enjoy making things like this so I don't go mad.

I couldn't think of any good reason to do this but now I'm seeing everyones' finished efforts I'm liking it more and more.
I need a thread bag and some mighty fancy door stops!!! I can use up some 'less attractive' bits for the bases and the linings and pretties for the outside. :)
Well look what I'm going to do with my scraps! 0_0
