Hello everyone. I had a crummy kind of year last year and haven't posted much, just lurked a bit from time to time. Not to say I haven't been sewing though. I finished the New York Beauty. Sorry it's not a great photo but OH has trouble with his shoulder and can't hold it up for me.  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Then I decided I would like to do something a little less labour intensive and found this on Equilter. I loved it and had to get it. Daughter also loved it so I've now ordered another one for me. Not everyone's cup of tea, but I adore it.

Current Projects / Finished it, thank god!

I was glad to see the back of this one. Have you ever had a quilt that went wrong at every turn? This one was that quilt. I even had thread that melted as I was pressing blocks. I decided the thermostat on the iron must be faulty so binned it and I'm now using my "good" iron. Phew, on to the next project and fingers crossed I won't have so many problems with it.  :gin:

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / ruler quilting
« on: January 18, 2018, 22:44:31 PM »
Has anyone tried quilting with rulers? I've been watching some youtube videos about it and now I'm fascinated. If anyone here has tried it I'd be grateful for any feedback as it seems to be a bit expensive if it turns out to be a bad idea. Thanks in advance.  :D

Current Projects / Tennessee Waltz
« on: January 11, 2018, 20:05:02 PM »
Like Iminei I was looking for inspiration and found this Tennessee waltz pattern. I've only just started it but I rather like how it's coming out, so it's down to Kate's to hopefully find more of the same fabric to make it a decent size.
This was from Shabby Fabrics and they recommend you use a Peaky and Spike ruler set from Marti Michell. Well, I already had a Creative Grids one and used that, but I'm not loving the way the pieces fit from it. If I was just buying one now I'd go for the MM one.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Thank you Iminei
« on: November 18, 2017, 12:53:27 PM »
After Iminei's discussion recently on what to do about the duplicated freebie from a subscription, look what she sent me!
She really is a very kind girl.
Thank you so much Iminei, I will be making good use of them now that the Storm at Sea is finished. I'm having a break from large projects so will be practising FMQ on some BOM's using these lovely threads.
Thank you again.  <3

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / storm at sea
« on: November 18, 2017, 12:37:46 PM »
Finally finished the storm at sea quilt. Officially it was called Christmas Storm at Sea, but it isn't particularly Christmassy. I did it in sections a la Candy Glendenning (I think that's her name) but it was still very heavy towards the end and I was glad when the last piece was attached and quilted. I'm pleased with the end result though.

Patchwork & Quilting ... Welcome to the Darkside / Having a week off
« on: October 08, 2017, 19:33:01 PM »
My daughter is coming Tuesday to stay for a week (YAY!! I'm so looking forward to seeing her) so my sewing space has to be dismantled and turned back into a bedroom for her. So no sewing for me for a week, but I'll still be looking on here to see what everyone else is up to.  :ninja:
I've been practising some FMQ and was going to post a picture but it's red stitching on red fabric so it didn't show up. Just as well really, it's not great. Not a patch on yours Ploshy. It's going to take many many more hours of practise to be worth looking at.  :(

I can't for the life of me remember in which thread we were discussing Brenda's beautiful Shapespeare in the park quilt, (sorry Brenda, it's an age thing  :() Anyway, I sent a message asking if it was likely to be made available, and this is the reply I got today.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I have good news! We are in the process of preparing The Creative Pattern Book, which includes “Shakespeare in the Park” as well as 11 other quilt designs, for release as an e-book. It should be ready in the next few weeks, and when it’s ready it will sell for $14.95.

How good is that? So now we can all have a go at making a quilt as gorgeous as Brenda's. Well, maybe.  ;)

Well, that's the question.
Normally I decide what I'm going to make and go to the fabric shop armed with yardage requirements, which is fine if you know what you are going to make! At the moment I'm finishing a UFO and just need to back, quilt and bind it - but after that?
I keep reading of people being able to make all sorts of lovely things from their stash, but I have no idea how to start one. Do you just buy fat quarter bundles, half yard, metres, or what? And do you go for your favourite colour or try to match colours without having a clue what to do with them? Or see something you love and buy it just because?
I have to buy some soon as Kate will be closed all of August, and that's when I will get a brilliant idea, and not be able to get the fabric. So, what do I do? Stash or not?  :S
