Technical Help / Re: Sleeve confusion
« on: June 20, 2020, 21:01:46 PM »
Thank you so much for your valuable advice. I do have this stitch on my machine, I believe it's called a straight stretch stitch, it does give a very secure seam, I use it sometimes for strength.

Technical Help / Sleeve confusion
« on: June 20, 2020, 12:16:33 PM »
I need advice and guidance please.

I'm setting in sleeves on a dress, gathering at the sleeve head. Now, I always thought that once this was done, the sleeve head would magically smooth out and would not be wrinkled. But, I cannot fathom how to set the sleeve in without some wrinkles showing.

What is the right way?

In the wardrobe / Re: Troublesome Dungarees

They both look fab  :loveit:

I once tried to hack a dungaree pattern from a trousers pattern and shoving my own top/bib onto them. I couldn't believe how tricky it turned out to be, and I never got past the toile phase - which I didn't complete! I pulled my neck in and bought a pattern  :|

Well done on persevering

@windthebobbin as you're an eager novice I wanted to point out the pitfall of trying garments on inside out, particularly trousers, but @Ohsewsimple got there before me

Patterns Discussion / How much?!
« on: June 10, 2020, 10:25:56 AM »
Just received an email from TATB introducing their latest pattern - pyjama bottoms/shorts, where they're asking 12 quid for the printed pattern or over 8 quid for the PDF. WTF  :faints:

@UttaRetch you're very fortunate that you don't have to, I'm many miles away from any fabric establishments  :(

Fun with Fabric / A sort-of patchwork make
« on: June 03, 2020, 17:01:11 PM »
I wanted another apron for the kitchen but I didn't want to use any of my fabric pieces as they're a bit too good really, I'm saving them for garments.

Looking around my stash, I dug deep and found a few pairs of denim jeans from my OH and my friend's DH - she gave them I didn't steal them  :P

I tried chopping them up and stitching large pieces together but it just wasn't working so I came up with the idea of patchworking and stitching them onto a backing piece of left-over moths and butterflies print. I used two back pockets instead of the standard apron pocket and used a few Aldi FQ's for the binding.

What do you think? Although, maybe I don't want to know.....

In the wardrobe / Re: Labels?
« on: June 02, 2020, 07:19:40 AM »
Well, I'm tight, I don't put a label in the back I stitch in a short piece of ribbon.

Of course, this is also good for hanging purposes

My OH received a few choice words and a thorough explanation of how you cannot just put a new zip in.

Refuse  ;)
