I’m making up the coat 117 from this magazine, and decided to cut and sew a 40 straight up, no pattern measuring or fitting. I picked this size because in the past it seemed to fit, despite my actual bust measurement being larger than the table of measurements by one and a half inches. I’m an inverse pear, and 5 foot 4, so about one and a half inches shorter than their table. You’ve guessed where this is going? Trying it on without the lining I’m finding it bigger on me than expected. Not catastrophic, but definitely a baggier fit than the model.
Now this will be the third Burda which has turned out bigger than expected. The other two were jersey designs, so I put it down to a different type of jersey being used, and/or the drafter using a wovens block for a stretch fabric. It’s been a few years since I made up one of their wovens, when a 40 fitted.
Has anyone found Burda mag patterns getting a tad bigger?

This satin was a medium heavy , probably poly, one and with the bias cut there wasn't any problems of fraying that you usually associate with a pure silk satin, so stitching it up was a breeze. I've made more of these than I can count, for myself and other family members. They're very quick to assemble, and if your fabric is at least 140 wide don't take much. What else can I say? Not the most exciting make, but soothingly simple, done in 7 steps.

Just finished a sewn beret, no pics as yet. I didn’t have a pattern as such, but it’s a very simple kind. Basically, gather a large circle into a band. It makes a floppy, artists beret. I have had a piece of orange crushed velvet in stash for at least a decade, and decided to use this together with small amounts of brick coloured silk duppion as trim. There was enough left over velvet to make a small scarf as well.

Has anyone seen this chez Tany Sews and Knits? It looks beautiful, very tempting. I reworked my last cape into a sleeved coat because it turned out not to be a garment I had a lot of use for, but this one is so nice.

Suggestions for patterns or links to rtw garments I might bat off for a longish cardi bordering on coat to make in a wool jersey would be gratefully received. I've had this jersey forever, bought it to make a dress, then went off the idea. I think I'd get a lot more use out of a top layer. It's a plain green fabric, so something which has a bit of style to compensate for zero fabric interest would be good.

Just celebrating. The wrap dress in silk velvet for dd2 is done! This drove me almost crazy, despite carefully hand tacking everything I must have had to unpick nearly every seam. It's packed and ready to go in the post, would be posted already if a tree hadn't blown down last night blocking our driveway. Jinxed or what?
