Technical Help / Finishing a sweatshirt neck.
« on: December 11, 2023, 19:10:50 PM »
Found this on a RTW.

1/2" tape is overlocked in with the body and edging, then turned over to cover the overlocked seam.   Might look nice with a pretty ribbon instead.

« on: January 24, 2023, 22:10:02 PM »
Invisible zips, black, cream and grey but not navy and  am pretty sure there were some, so may well be another lot. Not sure if they are 8" or 9", will measure when I recover. Also 20" black. So.. Anyone in need of a zip?  10? 20?  More? And a very large bag of 20" metal zips with brownish tape. Please take some.  Tell me what you need, I will weigh them and tell you the postage.

Vintage Machines / Mancinetti? any experience?
« on: January 02, 2023, 16:45:18 PM »
A friend is bringing a family sewing machine back here from Italy.  She has been offered a choice of a Mancinetti m105 or a Singer 9803c. She wants to learn to sew.
Google shows pictures of machines probably similar vintage and the mancinetti manual seems to refer back to Singer.
No knowledge of either of them, but both look fairly straightforward.  I wonder if they are the right voltage for the UK, although an adapter is not too difficult, but not sure about servicing, except that older machines have a lot of similarities.  I don't know how to advise her, but they will be driving back soon, so need to make a choice.

Fun with Fabric / Do you lose your nerve?
« on: April 21, 2022, 05:45:22 AM »
Digging down, I came across some fabric I should have sewn last October. Long story. There are some lovely pieces there, but I bought it when I was in a good mood and now it looks too bold. Does anyone else lose their nerve to make things?  Today it feels as if it would be fancy dress.  What do you do when/if this happens?

« on: March 16, 2022, 15:33:45 PM »
SavvySewist.co.uk  have a sale on A0 pattern printing in March. You can send them the pdfs and get paper copies back. Standard postage is included but you can pay more for speed.  They are very helpful and told me how many sheets each pattern would take.  @SewRuthieSews  Mountain Stitch jeans for example were 2 sheets.  Even extra discount if you order more than one pattern.
OOps  Forgot to say £2.99 for A0 sheet at the moment, down from £4.99

Fun with Fabric / Questions about silk
« on: January 14, 2022, 09:01:07 AM »
Do you prewash silk?  I have a couple of remnants I want to make up but I don't know if they will shrink or distort. Any tips for cutting out?
Impulse buys.  They just look so beautiful.

Very small trainers.  Internal measurements;  6.8cm long, 3cm wide.
Not big enough for American Girl, Our Generation or similar. Would fit BJD apparently.
The black ones have a discoloured toecap, looks like the doll has worn them to play out!
£4.25 each posted, except the black ones, £3.25

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / WANTED denim pieces
« on: March 02, 2021, 11:25:04 AM »
Letting out some jeans for a man who has put on weight with chemo.  I need pieces to let out the sides so he can  wear them a couple of more years.  First pair is darkish stretch Wranglers but there will be others. If anyone has jeans that are going into the bin, I could use the good bits.  Will pay p&p of course.

Has anyone made this dress from Sew Simple?  The neck binding seems to be quite a long way short of the neck length.
