Title: Correct thread for sewing leather?
Post by: Snowgoose on October 24, 2017, 10:39:49 AM
Please can someone tell me the best thread for sewing leather, using my Singer 201K?

I have some 100% cotton and Gutermann sew-all, but I'm not sure if either is suitable  -<

Thank you  :)  :flower:

I don't think either of those will be strong enough.  I would use Gütermann Extra Strong (https://consumer.guetermann.com/en/product-finder/extra-strong-m-782).

if you can't get that try their Top Stitch (https://consumer.guetermann.com/en/product-finder/top-stitch).

I've used both extra strong and topstitch. I'd go extra strong for the seams and, well, topstitch for topstitching.

The topstitching thread is beautiful quality it really bring a garment to life. Bear in mind the length is much shorter so you might need two or three spools if you're doing lots. I used three on my Mum's mac raincoat:
