Title: My toy cupboard...
Post by: Bodgeitandscarper on March 01, 2017, 19:43:28 PM
The toys needed a home, so I've been renovating tatty old furniture as well as embroidering, sewing and machine knitting - how did I ever have time to go to work?

Hopefully there's a pic attached to this - I couldn't see how to put it in the post.

Oooh, they look amazing. I had a toy sewing machine as a child and dearly wish I'd kept it. Where did you find these and how long have you been collecting?  :D

Gosh, what beautiful little machines.  The one I had as a small child was still around quite recently, I must ask my mother if she still has it.

I've only been collecting this year - and all but two off ebay.   I have most of the common ones I think, still  keeping an eye out for others, although I must stop spending my inheritance, I need the rest for our extension and my old age!!!

They're lovely and look fantastic displayed like that. Do they all sew?

To be honest, I've not tried sewing with them, too busy trying to clean them up.  They all operate, but sewing may be a different matter...

That's a lovely collection, and takes up much less space than the horde of old Singers that have found their way to me  0_0

What's the new one and is it electric?  Not seen one like that before.

It says Brevete SGDG on the clothe plate, with a sticker that says MC.  It takes a battery, but some old-fashioned type and I wonder if the actual battery connection is missing, so can't test if the motor works.

Just googled the Brevete SGDG and it's not the make, it's to do with patents, so still looking for a maker.

I love the shape of it and like how colourful your collection is.
Shame can't be tested, is it the switch that operates it?
I have a hand Essex miniature and always tempted when one with a motor comes up on eBay, just because it seems so odd such a small machine could have one.

It looks like the switch does operate it, I must have a closer look and investigate what the old type of battery looked like.

I'm intrigued by the Essex with a motor too, as you say, seems odd for a little machine.  I may have to look out for one perhaps...
