Today... One thread per day / Re: Friday 26th November

I've been a private patient at the dentist for years as the NHS did not cover the treatment I needed.  I was going every few months and the problem wasn't clearing up. A friend recommended her dentist and when I told him the problem he said the treatment would be painful, take a long time as he could only do a quarter of my mouth at a time, and expensive and he was right but the problem has never recurred.  To me, it's been worth every penny I've spent.

@Lowena  I know it's not much help to you but Maidstone Hospital has a very good department which deals with urgent eye problems.  Hope your problem is sorted soon.

OH’s birthday today so I’m taking him out for a posh Sunday lunch as he said he didn’t want or need a present.

I didn't watch CiN either as I don't like being bullied into giving.  I prefer to choose my charities.

I'm putting new elastic in a couple of fitted sheets and of course I couldn't find the elastic I needed although I know I bought some when I did the last sheets.  I then remembered that there's a habby shop in a local small precinct and they had exactly what I wanted.  It's a real Aladdin's cave of a shop as they sell wool, needles, pattern, and a lot more habby bits and pieces.

P.S.  My new driving licence has just arrived  :dance:

@Sewingsue

Yes, I've been driving under Section 88 of the Road Traffic Act but I was a bit worried that my insurance would not be valid if I had an accident.  I've been using my OH as a chauffeur but he's becoming fed up with doing this.

After nearly six months from when I applied I have finally received notification from the DVLA that my driving licence renewal has been accepted and I should receive my new licence within the next few days.

@Diane   Yes, zips can be shortened at either end, I just make sure that the engine cannot be pulled off by stitching over the teeth.  I think I saw a YouTube video showing how to do it.

Diane, I’ve had a quick look at the video and think you could use a continuous zip or a longer zip las suggested by Ellabella.

Most habby suppliers sell continuous zips, I first used them for making zipped cushion covers.

What type of purse are you planning to make, I've made cloth purses and pencil cases for children and I used continuous zipping on them as it avoids faffing around the ends of ordinary zips and gives a better finish.

Sewing Machines / Re: Help what needle Janome

Like Brenda P I mainly use Schmetz 80/12 System 130/705H on both my sewing machine and overlocker but my coverstitch uses System ELx705.  I do have a selection of specialist needles but only use them if really necessary.
