Help please - after looking at Kenneth King's tutorial on invisible zips I've decided I need a hemostat but can anyone recommend the best one for sewing as there seem to be so many on the market.

I can recommend The Ironing Press Company as I placed an order for needles Sunday evening not expecting to receive them until Thursday or Friday this week but they arrived yesterday and no postage charges.

Vintage Machines / Singer Touch & Sew 720
« on: October 21, 2020, 13:08:21 PM »
I inherited my MIL's machine and it's been in our loft for about ten years if not more.  I've had a look at it and it's in very poor condition, it works but sounds awful.  What I'm wondering is should I have it serviced and try to sell it, donate it to a local charity which repairs equipment and then sends it to third world countries, or just chuck it out.  I would be grateful for any advice on this.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Fabric for dolls clothes
« on: September 23, 2020, 14:02:53 PM »
I have a bagload of fabric left over from various dressmaking projects, some are fairly large and could  be used for dolls' clothes or possibly children's clothes.  If anyone would have a use for it, could they please PM me.  I don't want paying for it and I would pay postage (2nd Class parcel post) as I just want it to go to a good home.  It seems such a waste to just throw it in the recycling bin.

Sewing Machines / Singer Heavy Duty Machine
« on: August 23, 2020, 11:38:10 AM »
My neighbour has asked me about these machines as he wants a machine that will sew canvas.  I would be grateful for any advice about heavy duty machines not only Singers.  Thanks in advance.

The Haberdashery / Petersham Ribbon
« on: June 09, 2020, 14:49:31 PM »
Help, does anyone know of a reliable supplier of petersham ribbon for making waistbands?  I've trawled through the internet but some places don't seem to know the difference between petersham and grosgrain.

For Sale, Wanted & Free to a good home / Bernina Foot 7
« on: June 04, 2020, 14:46:48 PM »
I have an unused Bernina Foot 7 which is used for tailor tacks, fringing, faggoting, and terry cloth embroidery.  It fits Activa, Artista, Aurora, and Virtuosa machines and I'm asking £20 + postage for it if anyone is interested; they currently retail at about £50.

I also have a copy of Sewing Basics for Every Body by Wendy Ward complete with patterns and I'm asking for £5 + postage for this.  I bought it as a present for my niece but she had already bought a copy.

Tech Know How / Merging Threads
« on: March 19, 2020, 09:47:57 AM »
I started “A Good Read” yesterday but wonder if it is possible to merge it with “A Book Thread” as I thought this thread was no longer used.

Sewing Machines / Bernina 1008
« on: February 04, 2020, 15:15:00 PM »
Have just seen a post on Pattern Review that Bernina are ceasing production of the 1008.  I used one when doing dressmaking at evening classes many years ago but wasn’t able to afford one at that time.

Tech Know How / Displaying photos
« on: August 19, 2019, 16:22:53 PM »
I have just looked at the Jalie top made by Fiona M and she is on her side and not upright.  I've noticed that some but not all photos also display this way, is there any way of changing it so that people are upright?

Patterns Discussion / Pattern Sizing
« on: July 12, 2019, 15:20:43 PM »
Why is it that patterns seem to change size between garments?  I have two pairs of pull-on trousers made from the same pattern but different fabric and one pair is a good fit and the other feels to have been made for someone else.
