New Babylock coverstitch, no idea when it will be available in the U.K.

@Efemera, sometimes I wish I was very rich, unfortunately around £1600 is way above my pay grade so I'll have to stick with the Janome, which has been working exceptionally well just lately.

£1600? Wow! Really?

Why?

It’s a Babylock!   :)  Like asking why are Bernina are so expensive.  Babylock are definitely the best coverstitch machines around.  There aren’t many and I think I’ve used them all.

OK, thanks, that makes sense (I have a Bernina).
But you would have to want to make a lot of things that needed a coverstitch to justify spending that much.

I am seriously looking, it tick all the boxes for the things I feel are lacking with my current model.

The increased harp space and the ability to raise the pressure foot higher are the main pluses as far as I’m concerned.

I will feel guilty but only slightly  ;. Money in a savings account isn’t making me anything so I might as well have the fun of a new machine.

Plus Babylocks are fab machines and make life sooooo much easier.

@Efemera you should get a good trade in for that, or sell it yourself. It’s a good machine and there will be plenty of prospective buyers.

Anything sewing machine related is selling well at the moment.

All I will say it is certainly a large and solid machine - no moving around the table with this one.

Well I got a trade in price...... think I’ll be selling it privately.

If I were considering buying a new coverstitch machine this would be top of the list – if it weren't for that price ticket. I'm not wanting a Babylock specifically although it has a great reputation. My Bernina L220 (twin to Juki MCS-1500) is a great machine too but the features that are so very tempting for me with the Babylock Euphoria are:

-- Knee lift!!!
-- Presser foot lever on the right (this is the one and only thing I ever miss about my Brother overlocker)
-- Extra wide harp space

If Juki brings in a new model some time with those features (I'd really like a needle up/down feature too) I'd be pretty tempted but I've hardly used it at all for any of the sewing with wovens that I've been doing primarily since the dancewear demands have been on pause so I'm starting to find the cost issues of machine buying so much more difficult to justify.

Ooh, I do like the big harp space, it's hard trying to shove some things through my BLCS2... No, can't afford it!

She has landed.
I’ve not got further than threading the looper. The jet air threading port seems slightly different at the insertion stage. She is a larger, heavier machine which is probably good overall.
I believe most of my attachments and feet are compatible and so are some from the Ovation.

If anyone has experience of the seam guide for the Ovation Ikd be interested to hear more.
I’ll post more later.

I have a much loved, lightly used BLCS if anyone is interested.

Just too jealous darling @Apricot, probably can't even afford a lightly used BLCS.

@Apricot id be interested in knowing how you get along with the binder,,, ive heard rumours that it sits too near the foot and is difficult the manoeuvre the fabric.

Look forward to hearing what it’s like.  Not that I can afford one!   :(

Yes that will be interesting. First job to try that out.

I have been wondering about keeping the BLCS set up with a binder. At the moment she is back in her original packing for some dream time.

This could be a useful information thread. Please don't post enquiries about my sweetheart here. PM is better. She won't like to be talked about in public.

Looks interesting but I have a Janome CS machine and can't justify a swap. I do have a Babylock overlocker Imagine 2 which has been great although for some reason it's taken a great dislike to ordinary sewing thread in the needles ?????

Overlockers like to have overlocker thread on cones or large spools. Unless you are doing something fancy with fancy threads.  Empress Mills have a good overlocker thread or if you want to splash out Madeira.

A little update. I found the threading diagrams not easy to follow. There are two Youtube videos I found helpful. One by Lacey in the FB group and Nutts have a demo.  I immediately found my mistakes from these. However I don't think I have mastered the mysterious above needle plate - there seems to be a twist to do but it is all obscured. Maybe this is typical of some of the new generation of coverlock machines.

The needle threader works well but it appears a bit stiff at the moment, requires a big press to get it to descend. Looks as if it is working well. Chains on and off. I'm not yet certain how you clear the stitch fingers if you want to.

My largest knit double fold binder fits on the outer holes. The position is quite snug and close to the foot edge but there is enough room to train strips under the foot with tweezers.  However I wouldn't say I have got it in the correct position yet or which needle position is easiest to use it with on narrow coverstitch.

In a nutshell. She feels and behaves more like an overlocker. That is mean't in a good way.  Haven't had too much time to explore yet.

@Sewingsue i think there is the misconception that a coverstitch is just used for hems. But you can do quite a lot with it.

I've pieced entire quilts and seamed entire garments with my cheapie Singer overlocker.

Bernina has a new one out at the local dealer but I'm staying home so haven't seen it.

Babylock has a more expensive model than this one. :faints:

My kids will need to pay 40% Inheritance Tax on some of my estate. So by spending it now I am actually saving 40%. Doesn’t make justifying a nice machine quite as difficult
