errrrmmmm ...... Im not sure what to announce but the Activewear and Swimwear contest is now open
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
Design and make your own take on activewear or swimwear (from a burst lilo) and enter here ...
after the 30th June please post your entry including photos of fabric, construction and finished item(s) and we'll have a vote!
-
I may enter this, I need a new sleeveless cycling jersey, and I've had the fabric for it for a couple of years, so it should be well matured by now :P
-
I have an idea for one garment but also wondering if shorts would fit in to this contest?
-
Since I desperately need bathing attire this might give me the incentive to get it done. I printed some pdf patterns last month but couldn't get myself to actually put them together. I think it's because I dread sewing on the slippery fabric. Even though I primarily sew knits and have a lot of experience with them they are mostly rayon/lycra or cotton/lycra so they somewhat behaved.
-
Possibly long shorts, possibly leggings and tunic for online Pilates. Probably nothing as I don't find sporty stuff very inspiring.
-
I'm really tempted by the suggestion @Iminei made for Victorian swimwear but I'm trying to be good and not buy any more fabric for a while and I don't have anything suitable in my stash. I'll have a think...
-
Pattern is drawn, toile main pieces cut out, need to work out the back pockets now. :)
-
Cmon Ladies .. We cant Let Manuela down (well at least not on the first contest I'm hosting )
-
I'll enter this one. I need to refresh my memory regarding the rules.
-
Bodgeitandscarper's 1st entry. - Sleeveless cycling top
Well, here you are, not exciting, just here to make up the numbers as usual :)
I made my own pattern by kind of tracing over an existing top, enlarging it slightly along the way.
The stripes should actually go across the fabric, but who wants horizontal stripes? It is very stretchy both ways, so it works like this. I put the rear pockets with horizontal strips, probably not a good idea across my bum...
I cut the armhole and neck bands on the diagonal, just to be different.
Pics - I hope the one of me isn't too worrying for you to see - I am an inflated lilo obviously 0_0

@Lollipop ... When you remember the rules .. Will you tell me ???
I think your item/s are not to be cut before June 1st ... completed by June 30th, Pics of material. pattern, finished item by 7th July
????
-
Love your top, Bodge!
-
I may enter this one but haven’t quite decided yet!
I recently bought a pattern for leggings which are suitable for equestrian tights (no inseam) that I’m keen to try out, but I’m also wanting to focus on some painting too so not sure whether I’ll have the time.
-
Found a bathing costume in Glasgow museum's collections that I want to copy, Fabworks had the perfect fabric for £4 a metre so whoops I've bought more fabric!
-
This is right up my alley except for the small matter of not being at home!
-
Well Girls you all know the Drill ... So would someone please tell me what it is ????
-
Drill? I have a corded and a cordless Bosch 0_0 0_0
Something along the lines of bung each entry in one post, with info on pattern and bodges you made. If more than one entry, then number each in each post. Or something... 0_0
Am I right to think "activewear" is sports type stuff rather than posh dancing frocks?
-
Laura thought she would model her swimsuit for everyone. It isn't an entry as I made it quite a while ago. When I saw @Manuela picture, it brought back memories of making this one when I sewed an Edwardian wardrobe.

And with the skirt.

Happy sewing everyone.

I copied and adapted this from a previous competition that @Manuela did. As for what qualifies as sporty/active wear...you needn't look at me! :S
Welcome to the Swimming and Active wear contest.
As usual a few rules:
1. You will sew a minimum of one piece - it can be anything sporty/activity based.
2. If you want to make more than one entry, feel free to do so, but submit them in separate posts
3. Please clearly indicate what , if any, pattern you used and what, if any, changes you made
4. You don't need to use a commercial pattern, self drafted is fine
5. Sewing starts on June 1st, you can prepare & fit the pattern and cut before that date
6. Sewing finishes on June 30th please post pictures by July 7th
7. Please use the template below when you submit your entry post
(your name)'s Entry (indicate the number if you have more than one entry ;))
What was the ‘new to’ me technique
Pattern used (commercial or self-drafted, anything goes)
A short description on how you made it/problems overcome/etc.
Pictures (ideally included in the text, but I can do that for you if needed)
-
Thx Wrenkies  I may copy and paste that for future Sewalongs
-
@Iminei I don't think you need the "what was new to me technique" bit, that was a specific competition.
-
Darn it! I missed that one!!! Thanks @Bodgeitandscarper. 0_0

I have plans for a 1950s woven swimsuit like this:
So if I get round to it this month then I will enter!
-
@charlotte compared to your beautiful dress that will be a doddle.
Not sure that I'd want to swim in it, but great if you've got the figure for sunbathing - that is classed as activity isn't it?
-
Bodgeitandscarper's entry number 2
Another sleeveless cycling top.
Again, made from a self drafted pattern copying an existing top, this time I altered it to include the plain grey side panels, and used the grey for the neckbands and armhole bands.
One day, I'll work out how to do that overlapping v-neck properly, although it may not be possible using the overlocker like I've tried! I ended up doing lots of fiddling with edges, pinning, tacking, then coverstitching. I think it's turned out well, considering the complete lack of a plan for that bit.
Pattern placement was interesting, as I wanted the pattern centred on the front, but had to avoid having a big flower on each booby, or even a black spot. Pattern matching on the rear pockets was interesting too, especially with a fabric you can't press.
Just noticed, the fabric has a lovely pale pink in it that is really not showing up in the pics, it's not all grey!

Wow Bodgeitandscarper, that top is lovely, quite a stunning design as well, isn't it nice when we can use our equipment properly and make something so very useful.
-
loving that print!!!!
-
Fantastic job on the pattern matching and placement @Bodgeitandscarper. It’s making my eyes go funny just thinking about trying to line that up on those pockets!!
-
@Bodgeitandscarper well done! I think you chose a perfect pattern placement! The eye is drawn away from the BP and I didn't even notice the pockets at first glance... I hope you enjoy wearing it ...and the dusty rose comes out on my computer :-)
-
Wow @Bodgeitandscarper pattern matching par excellence! Respect
-
Fabulous print. Great pattern matching.
-
I’ve been a bit busy so just getting around to starting this. I’m using my Funkifabrics Lycra off cuts and some mesh off cuts to make a 2 piece dance set. I’m using CKC Canyon top and self drafted pants. Pics of fabrics and pattern more to follow.
-
My official entry modelled by Aimee. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

THAT is wonderful!! Is it a swimming 2 piece or dance etc ?? Id like a top like that (for a bikini, it might be able to tame ... 'the twins' ... :S ) Mind you I suppose it doesn't harm that your (?) lil girl hasnt a spare ounce of flesh on her body ... unlike moi :\
When you enter you need to say a lil about this :)
-
@Iminei it’s for dance. She never stops dancing which may explain why she’s so skinny :loveit: believe it or not she thinks she’s getting fat :scream:
-
Entry 2 is modelled by Hannah. Infinity crop top by Boo Designs and self grafted pants. Same leftover fabric from Funkifabrics. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ] [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

3rd entry Jade lace dance 2 piece
Pattern Canyon top and self drafted pants. Made from scrap stretch lace and Lycra with nude Lycra front lining.
Unfortunately, I have neither a mannequin or granddaughter to fit this set. [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
