Just to update you. I did stick 6x6 piece in the washer with no adverse affects, no shrinking  and no bleeding so i put the rest of it in. Don't as a general rule prewash my fabric but this had a slight waxy feel to it and a bit musty as it was a charity shop find.
Fabric is now sweet smelling and no waxy feel.
Now what to make?

A Good Yarn / Waistcoat crochet pattern
« on: March 23, 2024, 17:14:52 PM »
I have looked high and low for a crochet pattern for a traditional waistcoat, i have found a gents fisherman's waistcoat on the Homespun site but not quite what i had in mind.
Has anyone come across one/has one?

Has anyone any experience with this fabric. The care label says do not machine wash and i am just wondering why? Does it bleed/shrink.   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: height adjustable table
« on: March 08, 2024, 17:23:31 PM »
Well it has only taken 6 months but i now have a sit/stand desk. I did eventually brave Ikea as i really wanted to see a desk in action rather than buy direct from 'tinternet. I am glad i went, after looking at the Bekant and Trotten i decided they were too wobbly and would probably vibrate when the embroidery machine is going full pelt so i decided on the Idasen. It is a beast of a desk but very easy to put together and no wobble in site. At it's lowest it is probably a inch lower than my old table which is the perfect height for sewing for me. It is a pleasure to be able to cut out without the aches and pains and the motor is so quite. The only downside is that HE keeps playing with it.
I also bought a clear self healing work bench protector from Rhino Cutting Mats uk. for the top.
I can't believe what a difference my new table and chair have made to my motivation, i now look forward to going into the sewing room again.

I get mine from Jaycotts or Zipper Station although ZS are #5 Jaycotts are #3 and postage is very reasonable at £1.99 and very quick to send.

@Ivydene Sorry i don't appear to have anything the right length. The black open ended zips i have are 50cm. It's sods law that you never have the right colour/length  for what you need it for.
@BrendaP I have been looking for Soflex zips for a while now, do you know of any UK sellers as all i can see is USA websites.

@Ivydene the lower the # of the zip the lighter it will be. #3 tends to be the bog standard for skirts etc. but you can buy #2 with transparent tape.
Do you know what size/colour you need? I have loads of zips i could look see if i have anything useful.

Patterns Discussion / Vogue 1698
« on: February 12, 2024, 17:18:29 PM »
Has anyone made this?
I cannot find any reviews and wondered about sizing. I mistakenly ordered the 8-16  instead of the 16-24. It is described as very loose fitting and the finished bust measurement on the pattern says 54 for the size 16 (that 13 inch bigger than me) but i am assuming that is because of the style of sleeve. I would normally make an 18 in Vogue and now wondering if i need to buy the bigger size or see if the 16 works out, or even go down another size.
Any thoughts?

@Iminei thanks for the measurements, but on this occasion i will give it a miss. Because it is a double border i would need at least 2 metres for what i had in mind.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / New Chair
« on: February 06, 2024, 18:20:17 PM »
You may have seen i have been dithering about buying a new chair for the last 12 months. I seem to spend a lot of time messing about adjusting the one i have as i just cannot seem to get the position right anymore and always end up with back ache after sewing for any length of time. Plus apart for Ikea (were my current chair came from) there doesn't seem to be anywhere near me that you can actually test drive a chair.
Took a bit of a gamble and ordered one on line from Office Furniture Online. Today my new chair arrived, OMG what a difference it has made. It is a pleasure to sew again and no more faffing with the adjustments and even better, after spending 6 hours battling with heavy chenille curtaining, NO BACK ACHE.
This is what i got.

@Iminei what is the WOF of the border print? I would be interested in it.

Thanks @Diane I have never looked at Lamazi before because i had it in my mind they sold cheap and nasty stuff, far from it. Not sure who i am thinking off.
@Ouryve thanks, not a site i have come across before.
I will take a good look at both, i am sure i will get what i want (and probably more  ;).
