In the wardrobe / Re: Swimsuit

Well DD has finally been able to give her swimsuit a proper tryout and it has passed with flying colours.

Her only comment was that the lining was a little too full in the leg area, easily sorted as I could have made the leg elastic a little tighter.

More fabric has been ordered, she wants to get away from stripes as she says no one her size needs an arrow pointing to their bottom!

The added bonus is that as the fabric is nice and wide I can get a simple swimsuit for DGD out of the leftovers. Mind you at 5years old she loves matching Mummy, but I don’t suppose that will last.

@The Shrinking Sewist a basic swimsuit is a very easy sew, complications like bra cups etc not so much.

Welcome @DiverDan , that backpack is very nice, not over engineered and beautifully finished.

Sewing what you need and will make use of is so satisfying isn’t it.

Thanks @Acorn , I no longer feel I’m missing out. I did buy it last year, it was a good bargain.

I’m going to be good and ignore it, I’ve got far too many patterns anyway.

Access All Accessories / Email from Sew Modern Bags

Has anyone had an unexpected email from SewModernBags?

They recently had a bundle offer that I looked at but didn’t buy. Last night I got an email saying that the enclosed link would give me access to the patterns.

The salutation was just Hi but the email address looks legit, I’m worried it’s a scam but can’t be sure.

I’m doing a good old fashioned string quilt as I haven’t the time or inclination to plan anything and have lots of scraps to use.

My intention is to make 4 blocks between every other project. So the other day I finished DDs cossie , I then pressed some scraps and cut them into various width strips and assembled 4 blocks.

I’m now making a handbag and then another 4 blocks, should have something to assemble by late spring unless the sewjo goes west.

My DD asked me to try and make her a swimsuit.

She is very tall, 6’ish and at the moment a bit overweight. She has most of her height in her body so struggles with buying a cossie without spending a fortune, which she is not in a position to do.

High street ones either threaten to expose her boobs or give her a very uncomfortable wedgie.

I started with
https://sinclairpatterns.com/search?q=Indigo&type=product
as they have a tall file option for all their patterns.

She requested more bum coverage and no opening in the back.
I’ve made her lots of Sinclair patters in the past so know where to adjust the pattern for her figure. My problem was the body length as the pattern is drafted for a person 5’9””.

I added 3” to each body piece, 1.5” above and below the waist, dropped the back leg curve by about half an inch, sewed it up and gave it to her, stressing that it was a first toile and to see how it goes.
It fits her really well, I am amazed and very relieved as swim fabric is a bit pricey to be making lots of toiles.

Provided it is still comfortable after she has actually swum in it, I maybe in production.

Now I just need to source nice swim fabric.

Now that looks useful, no unpicking the dreaded lightening bolt stitch.

@Lowena you may wish to avert your eyes!

You did say SCRAP quilt didn’t you?

Only criterion, if I pick a fabric already used in the block it goes back in the bag, otherwise what comes out goes on.

It’s very liberating.

Go on, go on, go on.  @Bodgeitandscarper you know you want to!

Last night I cut some squares of curtain lining, ironed lots of weirdly shaped pieces of fabric and cut said fabric into varying width strips.

I think I’ve started. No sewing plans till DD comes to be measured for her swimming cossie, so this will be a good project to have for those times when I’ve finished something and have to wait to start the next one.

If I have too rigid a plan or have to make too many choices I can get a bit strangled and then it stops being fun.

My only criterion is that I am not going to buy anything but wadding.

I have lots of pieces of curtain lining in various sizes and am going to string piece on them and then we will see what develops.

I have lots of scraps and remainders of jelly rolls, I intend to clear a big plastic box, chuck everything in and take it from there.

I’d love to join in as long as the timeframe is not too tight.

About time I used up some scraps.
