Ive revived this thread at the request of several members ...

As some of these buttons were snaffled on the first go, please click on the pic that interwsys you and click the I for info to see details, price and if they are still available

So here you go Folks, A blast from the past ....

 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Malaising the day away, unable to get started on the almost finished Quilt (WHY???)
I suddenly, for no reason thought of my long ignored button box and the delights held within!

When i used to be a get up and goer I had a (very, very) small concern making waistcoats to fit anybody and everybody and I  (ahem!) accrued a great many glorious buttons...
that since have laid quietly in the Button box...Until now!

I am now offering these buttons for sale at the prices I paid(ish) in the '90's.

There may be the perfect button for you, a twin to the one lost on your favourite outfit or just something darling that you couldn't bear not to have ....

Whatever, I am open to reasonable offers on multiples and all prices include 1st class postage!

so step inside ........

Technical Help / Will you take me by the hand?
« on: June 20, 2023, 13:13:24 PM »
and lead me down a gentle side street into the Lightside?

Stupid Questions guaranteed ...
Expect no level of competence or knowledge ...
And please answer any Qs in words a 3 year old will understand.

So after my recent foray into the lightside haven of Abakan I seem to have emerged with an armful of uber slippery fabrics with ideas of making ...

A) a couple of buttoned sarongs ... I have made these before but sadly they no longer fit :(
B) the all in one drapey Eastern trousers that you tie round yourself ... the ones Ive been wearing for the last week or so

They only have one seam round the crotch (and a lorra lorra hemming) and seem pretty easy ... If I do say so myself.

So first to The fabrics ....

as ever press the info icon to see details ...

Q1 ... How do you stop these slip sliding around whilst working on them ?
Q2 ... Im thinking prewashing is essential in this field (having learned from my PJ botts)
Q3 ... Any other tips, hints anything to help me ???

Thanking you in advance for your expertise and advice ...

Technical Help / Thread thoughts
« on: May 13, 2023, 08:03:06 AM »
This morning there is a very real chance that The Splurgess is coming out as I have finished taking out all the belt loops of my best black jeans and now need to top stitch the gaps closed!

Should be simple ... my biggest concern is which thread to use. The thread that came out was slightly thick, soft and almost fluffy. The jeans are, as ever, stretch (seems like you cant get regular denim jeans anymore)

I have a black buttonhole thread that Im considering ... What do you peeps think???

Technical Help / Loop de loop
« on: April 12, 2023, 07:43:11 AM »
Hello Peeps, Cést Moi ...  Ive slunk into the light side to ask HOW you get button loops into the edge of a garment without them misbehaving.

Ok heres the thing ... yearsy yearsy years ago, when I first joined TSF I wanted some advice on making a Djellaba for HWMNBN who was then my husband.

Advice was given and must have been followed as two, one decent, one very decent djellabas were created.
The very decent one was used a lot and now Ive noticed that a couple of the loops (made from thin twisted cord) had frayed and a couple of the covered buttons need replacing ... so here I am, back asking advice,

So I imagine that theres an easy, professional way to insert button loops as your are actually making the garment but I need the cheats version as I only want to undo the top stitching of the already made, used and abused article.

When I made the djellabas the lil loops slithered around like nobodies business .. and now Im hoping someone can guide me into being able to insert the replacements into the already made garment.

Heres a pic showing the space where the broken loop was and the loop below fraying ... I still have the cord, as you can see, and probably some of the covered buttons too. All I need now is the Know How ... Over to you Boffins!

As you may, or may not, know I have made a boo boo on my measurements for the binding of the Advent Advent quilt.

A foggy head made me cut and make twice as much!!!

So If you have a Christmas project you would like to finish quickly I have the ideal offer for you ....

Approximately SIX x wof, 3" wide double fold biding (1 1/2" wide when attached)

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  Sorry for the blurriness

A woven red, green and gold tartan with a splash of printed gold stars on top ... very nice and just right for Christmas!

If YOU are interested I would like £10 which will include P&P which will probably have to be small parcel @ £4.40  ... if I can squeeze it into large letter I will and refund you the extra cost.

Embroidery and Embellishment / Uh Oh
« on: November 24, 2022, 11:00:16 AM »
Since I changed my lappy I have not used the PES programme that I had installed on the old one ... until this morning when I needed to access the fonts so I plugged the unit in and waited for the big flowery thing to materialise on the screen  and ...

Yes you guessed it ... It didnt!

So I sorta know whats happened but dont know how to remedy it ... Any ideas?
