Title: Saddle pad!
Post by: KayK on April 12, 2017, 22:09:54 PM
Having decided I rather like FMQ, I have decided to make some saddle pads - using a rather nice one as a template and cotton drill with a double bamboo batting, its all coming along quite nicely!!

Just changed machines to do this - the Pfaff makes hard work of it, the 201 knee operated does it well but makes my leg sore, but my new very cheap Touch and Sew (1975) does it beautifully!

I think i am addicted!!

So how thick is a saddle pad?..

The thickness of the saddle pad is one layer cotton drill, one layer of iron on firm facing, two layers of bamboo batting then another layer of cotton drill as the backing! In fact its taken me ages to do the FMQ - more time consuming than i thought, and also difficult to manoeuvre through the sewing machine harp!

The 1975 machine is doing it very nicely though!

pretty substantial for FMQ then I'm not surprised its taken a while...

Well, saddle pad finished  and a few lessons learned along the way - I shall certainly use different binding next time!

That's beautiful!  It reminds me of the tooling on a Western saddle - lucky horse  :)
