Yes, @TangledBloke, the stitching is called Sashiko (don't attempt to eat as you would Sashimi  ;)) and is simply running stitches. Ideally stitches are supposed to be double the length of the gaps but there are no stitching police on this forum as Acorn has all such unwelcome types permanently locked in her field shelter  :thumb:

I made a small bag covered in such stitching - some of it quite wobbly but the sheer amount makes sure you don't notice!

I'm afraid I have failed to achieve anything so far though the Improv. Quilt I started on my day course has a small chance of making the finishing line - if I could only find my mojo  :[

Tell you what, I'll nip upstairs and measure how many sq. cm it currently makes and see how near I am to the 1.2 sq.m I need.

eta  Hmmm, I have approx. 0.58 sq.m - a smidge under half the area  -<

Welcome @TangledBloke.

I too would like to know about gsm I only know it in terms of duplicating paper; with fabrics I'm used to going somewhere to have a feel  :D  which makes buying online more difficult for me.

Perhaps you've heard of the Japanese technique of mending and beautifying at the same time, known as Boro which uses Sashiko stitching. The exact opposite of 'invisible mending'.

There's also Kantha which is a similar Indian technique. @Lowena knows about that.

Any'ow, ask away, we love enabling and no question is too daft.

Managed 45 mins in the Sewing room this afters while waiting to collect Pepper from the groomer. Finished 3 more blocks for Improv. quilt, unpicked one from Monday that I did a bit wrong and started another of my own design.

I had exactly the same problem a few years ago with  my foot control. At Imi's for a 'play day' I borrowed hers and there were no problems so I knew that was the culprit.

I've been in my SR sorting out knitting stuff and pruning my knitting needle collection. It was lovely in there as the afternoon sun shines in the side window then progresses round to the end window. Being a small room it warms up nicely.

Wow, @DiverDan . What a very impressive start if you had never done sewing before. You obviously have a designer's brain and a knack for seeing how to make something practical.

Keep posting, it's lovely to see 'makes' that are a little different and so very useful  :thumb:

Perhaps, if I say it publicly, it has a chance of happening  :P

I have 4 dining room chairs that need tlc. The wood needs attention and seat padding and covering replaced. I have had the fabric for over 2 years, I thnk!

Welcome @ipek .
It will be lovely to see some of your projects and wardrobe items when you have time to post pictures.

May I apologise for the delay in posting the voting thread.

There are 14 entries which is great  but it's taking longer than I thought to post them all. I intended to start assembling yesterday but a day out to Hereford put paid to that - I even dozed off during The Apprentice such was the strain on the credit card!

Of course @SewRuthieSews. It's only Leap Leap day and not really March  :D

I shall be assembling the voting thread today so thanks to all who entered.
Laters, dahlings...
