Title: Cape New Look 6535
Post by: Silver Rose on November 25, 2019, 10:37:19 AM
As mentioned in my Today post I'm thinking about making this cape  View C and I wondered if anyone has made it. There are only 2 reviews on Pattern Review. I had a cape which I bought whilst holidaying in North Wales eons ago and to be honest they are not the easiest things to wear, I remember particularly how awkward the cape was when I was driving, but I don't drive now and I mostly walk and use public transportso I should feel more comfortable. I think I will make it in a wool or wool mix - perhaps I had better start looking ;)

I agree @Manuela , it isn't lined but I think I can handle a lining OK. When I was younger I would have loved a full length one for theatre going, nowadays theatre audiences don't dress up.

I don’t give a rodent’s pattootie (I’m working on using the phrase I learned from @Renegade Sewist) about what others wear. When we go to the movies/theatre/dinner...., I dress up.
I do have a number of capes.... We’ll have the first cold front of the year arriving, boots and capes....

Rat's patootie @Manuela.  In the UK, we say rat's arse.

Less picturesque though!

I know, but several years Renegade Sewist coined the phrase ‘rodent’s patootie’ on the Stitcher’s Guild - I love it and shall cultivate it....

Have you heard 'You bet your sweet patootie'?  I kind of like this one.  0_0

I have just tried saying this out loud and it's not right. I can imagine @Renegade Sewist saying it and it sounds great but when I say it, pronouncing both the Ts it just sounds odd.

I'd love a cape.  We were on holiday in Carcassonne many years ago and went up to the castle where they had the most beautiful full length woollen capes.  Sadly they were out of my price range but I still hanker after one.

Very interested in this as I'm going to be making a cape for DD3 for Christmas. I gave her a list of patterns to look at and she came back to me with 5 that were of interest.  I looked at PR and settled on V8959 (http://jaycotts.co.uk/products/v8959?variant=437234065). I'm making view B but will add some pockets.
I like the New Look 6535 options but tbh I didn't even consider New Look as I just don't generally like their patterns.  I will be interested to see your cape :D

Capes look lovely, don't know if it would work for me. It's not a cape but I really fancy the Style Arc Lux coat pattern  :loveit:

I've ordered some lovely puple and grey wool mix fabric from Croft Mill to make this cape, eagerly awaiting the postman now. This is the fabric I have chosen

It is very bright.

I am a happy bunny, fabric just arrived and I am pleased with it, the quality is good and the weight is just right for this cape :), my first time buying online so I was a bit sceptical. Can't wait to start the thread when I get sewing.

Lovely fabric.
Back in the 70s I used to babysit for a couple who did dress up to go out - even if it was just for a meal.  The lady had a full length black velvet cape with a hood - I was so jealous!
