Title: McCall's Spring 2020 patterns
Post by: UttaRetch on January 11, 2020, 08:03:00 AM
I haven't had a chance to have a proper look, but you can see them here (https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/new-sewing-patterns?utm_source=MailingList&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1912M) and decide for yourself.

There's nothing there that appeals to me which couldn't be frankenmatched using patterns I already have.

I'm underwhelmed.

I've come to expect nothing more.

There are a couple I was interested enough to look at in more detail, but then I realised that none of them are available as pdfs.   -<

I live in hope that there is a woven wrap dress pattern that will work for me and this (https://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m8036)

is for both woven and stable knits.

I looked at that one @UttaRetch though I don't like the puffy sleeves (could change that) and I definitely don't like the view with flounces.  I quite like M8030 although shirtdresses are not really my thing and I really like the detailing on the button front pants M8045.

The buttons would keep the wrap in place, but I'm not in love with puff sleeves either.  -<

I like the shirt dress pattern M8030, it’s not exactly new though. Everything else looks pretty forgettable.

Nothing floats my boat... :(

Suddenly I feel very, very old. Puffy sleeves, even on the fake fur jackets, and ruffled hem and flounces everywhere? Been then, did that, 50 years ago as a teen. Worked then, not now.

How do any of you under the age of 30 feel about these?

For the under 30's it might all be new.  :D

The 14-18 crowd didn't like it on my end of the world.  One of them said McCall's tried to copy Meghan Markle when they wanted to dress like Kate, so take that as you like.

Myself, I'm not sure who McCall's woman is.  I know it's not me.

Nothing much here for me either, although I quite like the M8045 trousers. I need to sew more of what I already have before buying more patterns though.

That is very surprising as I would have thought The Duchess of Cambridge's look is too sophisticated for teenagers.  However, the pattern companies have pretty much ignored her style and only StyleArc (https://i.imgur.com/9bDk74e.jpg) has done anything.

In the US, Markle's style is what we are told is sophisticated with the trends, dark colors and edginess while Kate is more whimsical and feminine.
