The joy of money in my PayPal account... it well and truly burns a hole in my pocket!

Bought 3m of this chambray with little stars. Stars not usually what I would go for BUT I am considering this part of my "Cinerella" inspired Disneybounding outfit for September when I go to Disney World (eek, I'm still a mixture of excitement and nerves. Nerves mainly being about 9hrs on a plane...) Going to use it to make the new Cashmerette shirtwaister.

Ooh, Fran, I have fabric envy.  That would make a lovely frock for Lilya.  Being cheeky, can I ask where it came from?

Well priced too IMO especially for a little one's dress:

If you want to wait until mine arrives I can give you a review of the feel of it.

I've not bought anything recently but.... I'm getting withdrawal symptoms and can feel a trip to the fabric stalls and shop coming on.  If I can find anything I like I'll show you if I can work out how to upload pictures.

I think I buy some fabric every week (don't tell), but sometimes they are just remnants.

I work on the principle that when we retire (not a chance), I will never have to go out buying fabric again!!!  ;)

I need to up the sewing speed though, or find more time to sew as the stash is growing rather than shrinking....

They call is SaBLE. Stash beyond life expectancy.

I have a spreadsheet which calculates how much I've got in metres, how much I've bought in 2017, and whether I am up or down.

I am currently up a fair few metres let me tell you that!!

However the satisfaction of crossing through and adjusting the "used" down to zero feels great. And I get to watch the differential drop too. One day, maybe it'll be at zero!

It also makes me more eager to cut out (my most hated task) just so I can have the joy of putting a line through it on the spready. And once things are cut out I tend to get on with them.

Nice fabric, Emma. What about that pattern that Demented Fairy used recently for her Libertyesque jersey dres?? It's on her blog.

Jessie, when you retire you won't have to buy any more fabric. But you find even more devious ways of acquiring some.

Fran, unfortunately SABLE is incurable.

I couldn't have a spreadsheet Fran, it would terrify me to find out exactly how much fabric I have..... ;)

TM, probably a good job that there's no chance of me retiring in the forseeable then!  :)

I only go into the fabric shop to see the girls and have a sewing natter, but magically fabric finds its way home with me!  ;)
Conversations go:  'I knew you'd like that', 'Oooh, I like that too' and 'if I don't get it now, you may not have it next week'

My fabric shop ladies are great enablers!  :)

Got a couple of lace fabrics last week that I nearly forgot about, for the SewAlong.

I would post a picture, but the fabric that I bought yesterday is not exactly photogenic ! It was black sweatshirting 60" wide for a pair of jogging pants for DS. The pattern used was a Kwik Sew 3663 and apart from having to add 7" to the leg length ( he's 6'5"tall) went together like a dream.

Emma I bought the same fabric in a different colour way.

It sewed up beautifully and washes well.

I made a loose sleeveless tee shirt for my recent holiday and was really pleased with it.

I may have to see if the shop has any left ;)

The first one is a denim lace (Marcy Tilton) I lusted after ever since I missed out on it the first time around (I've since made my own, quilting 4 yards of perforated denim onto 4 yards of lace). It arrived yeasterday, and I made a little happy dance  :loveit: I am currently daydreaming about what to make from it.
The second one is a structured cotton mix (Marcy Tilton) for a sheath dress.
No 3 is a Nani Iro Double Gauze cotton for a loose fitting sumer dress.
The lace No 4 (Marcy Tilton again - I absolutely loved her recent offerings) for a sleeveless duster (most probably Vogue 1540)

I bought this it's denim, quite lightweight, which I plan to make a dungaree dress with it (the patterns is shorts but I'm going to adapt that - couldn't bring myself to buy Tilly's pattern!!)

I bought some very inexpensive viscose for tops or summer dresses. The grey one was a bargain. I wanted 2 metres at £2 a metre but there wasn't quite enough. The fabric had some damage as it was the end of the roll. I hesitated so the shop worker threw it into a bag and said "£2 for the whole thing." Couldn't say no, could I. I can cut around the damaged bits and definitely get a top out of it.

The bright blue with dots is not what I would ordinarily go for but thought I'd take a punt. DD told me it reminded her of a hospital gown. Put me off!

I made a tunic from a double gauze last year and whilst it breathes well I'm not that keen on the bulk - mind that could have been my pattern - I made a self-lined yoked top  so there were a lot of thicknesses involved.  I'm currently lusting over the black lace but can't really justify it at the moment - it is a bit nice though!

Not a purchase, but I've chopped up an old silk dress that I haven't worn for years.  I plan to use it to line the jacket I'm making. The outside is royal blue wool crepe.

I love how cheap viscose can be, considering it's a natural fibre and good for summer. BUT I hate sewing with it! Such a fraying mess.

I'm just finishing up a top in cotton voile which is also a fraying mess and it's sapping the joy out from my (and I am covered in little bits of thread).

Viscose, like all rayons, isn't really a natural fibre, it's cellulose in the form of plant material stewed up with caustic soda and other chemicals to make it suitable for forcing through fine holes to make it into filaments which are spun together.  It usually gets the designation of man-made as distinct from the fibres produced from petrochemicals which are synthetic fibres.

The natural fibres are:
plant based - cotton and linen, also rami, jute, hemp, etc
animal based - wool from sheep, also mohair, angora, yak etc etc
and of course silk from silkworms (insects)

My most recent purchases are this one....

With thanks  :* I bought it using my runner-up prize from the Stash Sewalong from the Fabric Godmother.

I told my daughter I'd ordered some fabric with  :fish: on it and she was  >< >< :fish:?  I promised her she'd be a bit jealous when she saw it...and she was... :loveit: :D

It's as gorgeous in real life as it looks from the picture. I'll be making some P.J bottoms from it and I'll make a jersey top from some plain jade green fabric.
They'll probably be known as my T.S.P P.J's... ><

I also bought this...

It's a lovely cotton fabric which I hoped to use in the 'white' sewalong to make a shirt.

Bought off Ebay, but it's NOT white...at all.... It's definitely cream.
The seller was wonderful and admitted they'd made a mistake in the listing, so offered me either a discount on my next order,  or to replace the order with the white.
I've gone for a discount.

Sandra.

Yeah I know what you mean. I feel like it's a grey area. It's much comfier to wear than polyester or nylon though.

The fish fabric was from Fabric Godmother...It was the cream cotton which was bought from an Ebay seller.

There were two colourways of the fishy fabric but they were very similar.....Ah!...just been to check their shop and they seem to only have 'Blue' left. Mine is jade...(I think).
It's a Rose & Hubble fabric.

I bought fabric from a local Boyes a couple of months ago to make a relatively warm top.  I finished it yesterday just as it's warming up again :[    There's enough fabric left to make a waistcoat type thing to wear over it for extra warmth.  Probably save it for mid summer 'cos it's sure to be cold again then

I agree - viscose/rayon comes between the natural  fibres and the synthetic ones when it comes to comfort, absorbency etc.

I work on the principle that when we retire (not a chance), I will never have to go out buying fabric again!!!  ;)

Jessie

I'm not into sewing clothes but when I was at work I used the same justification for regular orders of quilting cotton from e-bay and whenever I went anywhere near a quilting supplies outlet.

I've now retired and I can tell you it doesn't work as old habits are hard to break!

Plus in spite of a large stash I can never find exactly what I want and anyway it's my civic duty to support local craft shops and I just happen to have one. :P

I nipped up to Lancaster this morning, it's only 30 mins up the M6, and just happened to call in at Standfast & Barracks. Actually I didn't get any further on my journey as the fabric was delicious and I just had enough in my purse for:

The first three are Liberty Lawn and the last is a John Lewis cotton poplin - I only went in search of fabric for a dress for DD but just couldn't resist.  :D

With the fabric that my DD rejects I might just use Butterick 6024 or McCalls 7094 for myself, if she doesn't put another order in first.  :D

2 more.  Sorry I've managed to upload 2 pics of the same one and can't work out how to remove the extra one but hey I'm still learning!  I've got more to show you upstairs that I bought on Thursday, will do that later.  The red in the first post and the spotty one in the second are for tops, the pin stripe were for Capri pants but it's a lot heavier than I expected so that can save for winter trousers.

The pretty red and white sparkly one.  I prewashed it, and don't use a tumble dryer, but it made all the hairs on my arms stand on end all day when I wore it lol

Vinegar rinse usually fixes it!

Recent purchases include some dark navy heavy satin backed silk crepe.  Looks grey in the photo >:)
Viscose jersey in a paprika colour which I thought was a bit unusual colour wise for me.  This will be a simple top.
And the black and gold is a polyester, unusual for me but can out up with it for the evening.  It has some satin areas and some organza areas.  You can just see through it. And some very random gold lines.  It was made into the top for a cruise and part lined with a viscose lawn.  Had to weight the front neck edge to stop the lining poking up.  We had some old coins hanging around.  I found the old 10p piece too heavy but a Barbados 25 cent was just right.  :D

I went to Abakhan a couple of days ago, I wanted some 'knicker' elastic - the soft stuff not the ordinary 1/4" stuff, some fabric for P&Q as a blender and a patchwork ruler. I bought ------------NOTHING!!!!. That is almost unheard of for me as I usually buy fabric that I definitely don't need.

Liberty print tana lawn from e-bay

Flamingo print fabric from Aliexpress
Oh....and a grid ruler thing from Creative Grids (in case I get tempted over to the dark side)...

I had a splurge:

4m viscose jersey for a maxi dress

3m viscose twill to make M7381 (https://jaycotts.co.uk/products/m7381-misses-pleated-dresses-with-optional-tie-front#.WS6A1xPyvOR) which I made as a summer dress last year (http://thesewingplace.org.uk/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=64). Didn't like it much, but wore it this weekend and decided it's really nice and easy to wear. Making it again but making the top a smaller size which I think will make me like it more.

Got the last 1m of this, to match with cream jersey to make Simplicity 8170 (https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/475373715/raglan-sleeve-top-pattern-button-front?utm_source=Pinterest&utm_medium=PageTools&utm_campaign=Share)

How do you manage that?  They collect it off me and they send it.  It never get its bum on the ground long enough to get cobwebs.

Anyway, two meters of cream ponte for a Vogue shirt dress (two half price patterns and free delivery) plus some reduced blue and white stretch cotton from Minerva, can't snip the fabric as it seems everybody bought it over the weekend and it is not on the site any more

Ah but if you only started sewing in January you've a lot of stash building to do  ;). It's from the stash that the creative spirit flows and it's this forum in the various sew alongs and challenges that provides the focus. You can't have one without the other  :)

Enjoy your purchases, just make sure to pay the rent/mortgage first (wouldn't like to encourage reckless spending!)

Hope the recuperating is going well xx

What have I bought?  You may well ask.  I went into my local on Saturday, just for gold ribbon, but the girls were very busy, so I had a browse while I waited.

1/2 an hour later, I landed up at the till with a lovely linen viscose mix x2, (roll ends), a beautiful blue and white stripe for a top for DD, a couple of metres of gold ribbon, 5 metres of narrow white lace, and 6 mopearl buttons.

No idea what I'll make with them, but they were bargains and as such, could not be passed up. They will also fit in perfectly with the rest of the 'homeless' stash (must buy another box).

This just arrived from Sherwood Fabrics.

The green and cream is cotton twill and is destined to become a pair of (probably cropped) trousers - Style Arc's Talia I think.  The blue/black/grey one in the middle is somewhere between cotton drill and sateen, with stretch (Sherwood describes it as 'Velvet Feel Vintage Brocade Design'), and is for the stash.  The pink one is a viscose/lycra jersey and will probably make a t-shirt and a nightie.

I was at Abakhan this morning and the acquisitions are :-
a piece of pale grey/blue linen look fabric for trousers + zip
two pieces of t-shirt fabric, one plain royal blue and one patterned
several pieces of craft cotton - one for a planned quilt for DGS and rest for stash (as if I don't have enough)
As I have one of their loyalty cards I received a £10 gift voucher so treated myself to a couple of patchwork templates.
Not a bad morning!!

Mmm great haul, maliw. And I'm just checking my Abakhan loyalty card to see how much you have to spend to get a £10 voucher. You have been a frequent flyer at Abakhan, haven't you? ;)

I bought some beautiful pure white-on-white striped stretch cotton, which arrived a tad too late to sew it up for the White challenge.  I put it to one side and sulked lightly...

Today, I had an email saying I'd had  a partial refund of postage charges from the seller, and I went to look again at the fabric...because I'd said to the missus there wasn't enough for a long sleeved shirt BUT the eBay details reminded me I'd ordered THREE METRES.

I measured it.  110cm.  TWENTY ONE QUID PEOPLE!  I probably would not have noticed, or not for some time!  I messaged the guy, he's sending me more.  What is it with my sewing luck right now?  Which sewing gods have I offended?  Have I not shed enough blood to the seam ripper and sewing needles?

I was in Abakahn this afternoon the little one in Chester on my way home from work. I needed 2 zips for some cushions I am making for 2 colleagues who are retiring both are Radiography lecturers and married to each other so 1 cushion has a skull embroidery and the other a hand. Whilst I was there I had to go and have a look downstairs at the fabric because it would have been rude not to and some navy dress polyester fabric just happened to come home with me, hoping to make a dress - that fits- this weekend. I just need 1 more stamp for my £10 voucher

I looked in the local Red Cross Charity the other day - they always have fabric.  I spotted under the pile a large bag, Laura Ashley bag, with 3.8 metres of 60" wide blue medium weight cotton, I thought it was chambray at first but it was heavier - £10!  And another piece of orangy/pink another 3 metres or more, cotton - £2!  All brand new and never used.

I am thinking of making a floor length kimono style house-coat with the blue and possibly use the pinky one as trim.   :fabric:  :)

I went to get some material for trousers today.  Heavy cotton, ideally with a bit of stretch.  And absolutely, definitely not denim, because I already have too many things made of denim.

I found this lovely stretch ... ahem ... denim.   :|

It's patterned, though, so that makes it not-exactly-denim, doesn't it?

Clearly not m'dear! In fairness he should send you 3 new whole metres so you recover from the trauma of short shipment ( which can be very painful!)

Lovely fine cotton lawn dobby, soft cotton with anchors and brushed cotton with elephants.

I went to Goldhawk Road for the first time on Tuesday. Wow!

I bought 2m of Liberty Silk for £20!! No plans for it yet.

Husband chose this cotton flower print 3m for £9 (thought it would keep him happy traipsing after me if I offered to make him something  ;) )

I also bought two fabrics to make into a dress for a dinner dance we're going to in September (I was going to use the taffeta in my stash but... you know!!) I'm going to make a bodice from the very dark navy matt fabric - no idea what it is but it's very soft to touch with an almost rubber like backing? (Thin though) and the skirt from this silver sequinned fabric, doesn't really show in the photos but it's not really shiny sequins but a matt sequin. Just need a pattern now!

I have just received delivery of some fairly cheap fabric which is just what I wanted - it's crinkle viscose, and makes wonderful beach trousers and skirts
If like me you have to cover up in the summer because of a skin sensitivity to the sun (I use baby sunblock and still burn) you want things that are light, flowing and easy to launder when on holiday, so I make wide leg, soft waist trousers which are perfect for holidays and a few skirts with a modesty panel lining for evening wear - a few cool tops and bobs your uncle.
Bought it from The Fabric Room https://www.thefabricroom.co.uk/viscose/viscose-crinkle.html  in lots of lovely different colours, cheap too, although there is a minimum order of 3 meters but that is ok for wide leg trousers and full skirts anyway.
Sorry can't post pics at the moment until I delete some from my dropbox

I had a lovely trip to Fabworks in Dewsbury the other day, my first visit but definitely not my last.

Lots of lovely knits at very reasonable prices, a couple of shirtings for DH  at only £4 a metre and two lots of linen blends for summer trousers for me.

The most impressive thing was the was the very nice lady who served me was able to pack ten different lengths of fabric into one carrier, makes it so much easier to get past security :ninja:

I think my period of financially-induced virtue has crashed to an end.  We had  a teensy influx of cash last week, and this bad Fairy, chained to the PC by the demands of exam marking, sneaked onto eBay, AND Fabric Godmother sent me a naughty tempting email...  Well, it's nearly my birthday.  :S

So I got some plain, but luscious fabrics, as I noticed that my wardrobe is lacking in simple garments that match to others easily.  Lots of beautiful patterns, but I'm wary of matching two patterns together, so hey-ho, need some staples.

First parcels just arrived:

I got a lush, drapey viscose jersey in black and white for simple tops [can't go wrong there]
Red cotton sateen [I fancy a shirt dress in this]
Plain white cotton lawn, to line...well, there's a saga attached [of course, it's me]

Fabric godmother tempted me in with some delicious embroidered white cotton lawn.  I tried to order a couple of metres [it's NOT cheap] and couldn't remember my password, so got caught in that bloody loop of trying every single variation on my usual password cluster that I could come up with.  Nowt.  So I tried to open a new account, they wouldn't let me.
Eventually, reboot, mutter, sacrifice to the sewing gods, and I got in, and stuck 2m in my cart.  But couldn't.  And also couldn't locate the usual clicky to get to the cart.  I randomly added a metre of something else to see if I could add that.  Yes I could, but couldn't at any stage of my checkout feint actually remove the unwanted yardage, or get my coveted lawn into the basket.
Of course, by now, I NEED THAT FABRIC.
After much cursing, an email to the company, and more cursing, I noticed that one of the screen's clickies looked, well, 'double'.  The shopping cart button was sort of underneath one of the others.  Weird. Careful mouse positioning got the ruddy thing open [precarious work I kept ending up elsewhere] and I tried to increase the paltry 1m of lawn in the basket to 2m.  Nope.  Twenty attempts later, I deleted the whole caboodle and sent another email.
Today, their reply was that they only have 1.6m left, and you can't order part metres in their system...did I want it?
Well duh.
So THAT's now on its way.

Added to the heap is the white self-stripe yardage mentioned earlier.

Don't they all look fresh and crisp and summery?  And I still have no time to sew.  Bugger.

Trying to find an hour or so from marking this afternoon to knock up a parasol holster and steampunk mini-picnic bag.  Ta-ra!

Ooh yes, some tasty stuff there! I missed out on an ebay auction of tweed yesterday but that's probably a good thing as it was for 6 kilos of tweed remnants which is the equivalent of 10m+. My stash is hardly tweed free. There's loads of it waiting patiently to be made into something fabulous. It will have to wait a bit longer as I need to get onto summer sewing at long last.

I went to a fabric wholesale warehouse sale yesterday and walked out with a few very pretty pieces of fabric! I love this warehouse as they import fabrics from Italy and always have the most gorgeous quality fabrics.

From left to right - 3m of gorgeous red wool melton. Going to make myself another winter coat. Style still undecided!
2m of a lovely pink toned, lightweight wool. It has the feel of a silky wool melton but it's more of a suiting weight. Very unusual and feels amazing. No idea what to make with this, maybe a jacket of some description?
2m of black cotton/rayon blend suiting. Ear marked for trousers (in fact, going to cut them out this evening!)
5m of teal cupro lining. Bought to make piping for and line 2 riding vests (one for myself and a friend) for riding club
2m of stretch ottoman or ribbed ponte? Not sure which. Slight sheen to it. Just the perfect weight to make myself a pair of riding breeches.

Close up of the pink wool. Might be holding onto this one for a while, as I've no idea what to make with it!!

I have been looking for ages for some border print fabric as I want to try and make a semi fitted dress (on the top) with a half/three quarter circle skirt..found some on e-bay...very very pleased with it...180cm wide and 3 metres length for £16...it was one of those bidding things...first time I have bid for anything (I had guidance from my daughter)....

It's a soft drapey/stretch material (sorry, don't know the technical term as I am still at the stage of describing...I know what cotton and poplin look like now!!)

I order it on Sunday and it arrived today....

Given that this is a border print, you might want to rethink the circle skirt idea though  :)

Thanks for the feedback VG and Manuela..

What about a panel dress.?...maybe 6 panels...so I get the fullness at the hem and the fitted aspect at the waist....I dont want to lose the border print, yet, something empire with flair at the hem suits me best...I hope this makes sense...all suggestions are gratefully received xxxx

I went fabric shopping with several students to the Hawker's Bazaar today (definitely a dream job, I get paid to go fabric shopping ) and ended up buying 4 fabrics for myself.
- black and white floral print cotton sateen, £ 2.50 per yard
- black and white abstract cotton canvas, £ 2.50 per yard
- off white guipure lace (it's fairly open I want to underline it with bleached laser cut eyelet denim) £ 4.- per yard
- off white shirt weight embossed cotton lawn, £ 2.- per yard

The market is like a tent city under a large tin roof, at 35 degrees Celsius, it felt like being in a sauna....

Ooh I love that fabric. Birds are very popular right now - I can never seem to find any decent fabric! Is it a jersey?

I've been on a bit of a spending spree on fabric and I really need to rein myself in!! Not allowed to buy anything at the moment unless it is needed for my newest crusade (full seat riding breeches) or a "glam rock" costume for an upcoming gala dinner. I really need to start thinking about this one so I'm not left finishing my costume the day of like I have in previous years!

The last piece of fabric I purchased (which will be the last for a while), was 5 metres of "storm blue" wool twill. It's a light suiting weight, and the plan is to turn it into a matching set of trousers, pencil skirt and blazer for work. I love love love working with wool and I'm looking forward to making it up!

It's not jersey it's a light woven not sure exactly what I would call it but it's heavier than a chiffon. It's a tiny bit too narrow to cut out the two back pieces in one so I've messed around with the sleeve a little rather than have loads of leftover fabric so fingers crossed it will be ok

I walked past today and couldn't resist a rummage in the off cuts rack... and bought this very unphotogenic fabric, which looks textured and grey at a distance but close up is turquoise and amethyst weave. It's a poly cotton with nice drape by Scion... and the offcuts where nice and cheap!

The opulent blue/lace and purple/gold are part of the Mrs' bday pressie... I need to turn them into Salwar/kamez and the pretty fabrics I bought from a neighbour cleaning out her stash... I'm hoping to make a dress or 2 for my daughter.

I really ought to start a Sable spreadsheet! Would help me track my projects and fabrics.

having a spot of image trouble... Images fixed :)

Evidently during the war the fashionable woman about town made a gas mask bag to match her current costume: I've just bought some 1940's style fabric and have an original pattern for a gas mask bag from the July 1941 edition of 'The Ideal Home and Garden' I'm going to make it up (soon-ish) and dangle it on a 1940's Enthusiast Facebook site I belong to and see if I get a bite!!

The War and Peace show is returning to the Hop Farm at Paddock Wood, you could make some and sell them there, bet they'd sell like hot cakes.

I bought 8 FQs this afternoon - all creams and off-whites - and they are all now cut up into a zillion pieces.  :snip:  :snip:,

There is a Facebook page called the 1940s Hub and they are badgering me to make some for them - I'm retired and there are not enough hours in the day!!

Glad to see you back  DF. Fajita, that   Vogue pattern is really easy and really versatile. I've done two and will no doubt make another in due course.

I'm not a prolific garment sewer like many of you but have bought 2 lovely cotton fabrics from Fabric Godmother.
The hummingbird one is for a https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/lennie-over-shirt/ (https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/lennie-over-shirt/) and the striped one is for a https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/roxy-shirt/  (https://www.stylearc.com/shop/sewing-patterns/roxy-shirt/)  I hope the stripes will work on the split back piece.

I think I will have to be careful with placing the pattern pieces on the bird one so that I don't end up with a load of decapitated birds

I love both of those Plosh, I may have to amble along to the Fabric Godmother, just to have a quick look.  Only looking you understand  :P.  Yes, of course you do...... ;)

The hummingbird one is a bit pricey (£15 pm I think) but I don't make a great deal of stuff so can be a bit indulgent sometimes and I usually go for cotton if poss as my skin doesn't like a lot of man made stuff.   It comes in a couple of other colours too.

Go for it, Ploshkin. The hummingbird fabric is fab and your top will still be much cheaper, and much more original, than the equivalent RTW item.

I wandered into a charity shop on Monday when I was in town and saw and bought some old sewing notions, poppers and cottons plus some uncut Prima patterns to make summer dress/skirts for my 2 GD's. I also got an unused Simplicity pattern for a dress for myself. So, I am on the lookout now for a nice shirt pattern.

My vogue pattern arrived this morning. Wasn't expecting it til Tuesday. Wonder if I'll have time to fabric shop this weekend. I don't stash garment lengths, just bits for quilting.

...four days to the end of marking for another year, and the retail therapy continues.  Four patterns which I really don't need from another Weaver Dee sale, a small piece of delicious emerald green silk to cover another parasol, a humidifier for the bedroom [which seems to have cured my snoring] a paper shredder [well, I've always wanted one] and a DVD copy of Luke's Kingdom.  Oh yes, Oliver Tobias circa 1975 anybody? Grrr-owl.

I've just taken delivery of 3 different weight denims from Sherwood Fabrics.  A lightweight navy with a bit of a sheen, a dark purple with a good bit of stretch and a rather nice 2 tone grey / pink heavyish one.
I was a bit peeved after placing my order to get an e mail from Sherwoods offering me 10% off everything (though I can see why they do it).  I suppose the trick is to order one thing and hope you will get a discount offer for other stuff you want but I can't be bothered playing games
Anyway,  when I unwrapped the parcel out fell a bag of skittles which I thought was rather sweet so I've forgiven them (or perhaps someone in the packing room is searching for their afternoon treat)

I've found that sometimes it is just pure coincidence you get an email
offering you a discount after you have already placed an order (not the site you mention but different sites and not always to do with fabric purchases). In cases where that has happened to me, I have emailed and (politely) complained that I have just missed out on the discount and in in every case they have honoured the discount retrospectively?  So maybe worth a try perhaps? Nothing to lose apart from them asking for their bag of skittles back  ;)

I was taking some stuff into the local charity shop, and happened to look around while I was there.  There were 2 balls of a fawn coloured Sirdar 100g, and 2 balls of blue Sirdar 200g all for £2!

Absolutely perfect for the 2 Peter Rabbits which are to be done for next Easter!   :) :)

I've had a little splurge recently... I realised (in unusually good time) that I'd forgotten to buy lining for upcoming projects, so I ordered a batch of white cotton lawn, I also wanted new needles and industrial needles so got some, I found the domestic needles are available as 'add on' Amazon items (cheap) and  they're Schmetz, and then Amazon mucked up delivery, and gave me a partial refund!

Very welcome after my splurge:)

My finger slipped and I bought those two fabrics (on sale) from Marcy Tilton's site....
On Tuesday the textile department of my school (all four of us) have an outing going fabric shopping to Sham Shui Po (Hong Kong's garment district). I hope we'll skip the Hawker's Bazaar, as me might start boiling in our own sweat in there (tin roof, no ventilation, scorching sunshine)... other than that, I'm really looking forward to it.

The fabrics arrived today, and they are beautiful   :)
Earlier this week my colleagues and I went to Sham Shui Po (Hong Kong's garment district) and I found this Chanel like viscose tweed/boucle for £3.50 per meter

I had finger slippage earlier this week, and the parcel from The Textile Centre arrived today and as usual all the pieces were measured generously.  0_0

Teal blue lace fabric with a gimp outline - described as "muted royal blue" but is the same teal blue colour as in the photo.

Stretchy velvet - I think they have sent the red instead of the purple, but at just over £4.00 a metre it's not worth the hasssle of complaining!  A long sleeved top probably but it's one of those fabrics which curls so needs a bit of thought as to how best to prevent that happening.

Pink and white craft cotton AKA summer dress fabric.

Stretchy jersey for a winter dress.

Plain "Barbie Pink" linen-viscose - a skirt, or possibly a jacket; we'll see what it's like after laundering.

All have been overlocked, three have been in the washing machine and on the line now, the lace has been hand washed (lots of excess dye, my hands are now blue!) and the black one is going round in the machine as I type.

A length of this (https://www.croftmill.co.uk/products/fabric-by-colour/purple/pale-pink-lilac-polyester-satin-backed-crepe-dress-product.html) which at last is just the right colour to go with my charity shop silk jacket

Just bought a piece of navy and orange myself Fajita.  Look forward to seeing what you make with it.

Yesterday I bought a bit of trim for a dress for Lilya, some yellow sparkly tulle (for my Belles), and a bit of nice Pirate jersey for Theo.
