Current Projects / Help with finding fabrics please - layer cake

Hello oh knowledgeable dark siders.

A friend of mine is about to undergo chemo and I'd like (if I can, you know time and not much of.......) to make her a quilt to snuggle on the sofa with.  I quite like The Simple Stack Quilt as it will be fairly quick and and am thinking of QAYG.  Her favourite colour is pale blue, has anyone come across a layer cake that is primarily pale blue?  I've had a quick look but I can't see anything.  Otherwise, I might just go all out colourful with a pale blue backing.

If you search "John Kaldor fabrics online Santa Cruz stretch woven satin", you get a whole load of fabrics come up.  Not quite in the same print but lots of lovely (IMO) designs.

I prefer the smaller dark green button but I would have a look at doing red gold and green buttons, if you have enough of the same size buttons.

Key to cutting out the tricky fabrics is to make sure that the weight of the fabric is supported, ie if you cannot fit all of it on your cutting area, make sure the excess is well supported so that it does not drag on the main part that you are cutting.  Then use lots of pins, LOTS of pins, placed horizontally in the seam allowance and cut in a single layer.  If it is a very fray-y fabric, I would also consider increasing the seam allowance as well (eg 1.5 to 2cm).

I buy online now and I am in London (no shops locally).

I've just bought some lovely fabric from Lamazi but Dalston Fabrics are also great (I've been to their bricks and mortar shop), ebay is also good.

Me too and I am an almost lifetime knitter; my grandma taught me when I was very young, maybe about age 7.

I find crochet more portable and also very mindful, due to the constant counting required, or is that just me?
