Hi, I'm new... / Re: Hi I'm Renita
« on: July 22, 2018, 13:05:09 PM »
Another welcome Renita.  I think a good many on here are returnees to sewing.  Although I never stopped completely I was amazed at how much had changed (fabrics, tools and techniques) that I didn't know about. I soon found out about them here.

@Iminei I think you should consider writing a book to accompany 'The Village' (in the style of Under Milkwood) incorporating all your trials and tribulations along the way.

If the fabric hangs ok without the lining I would just go for the slip.

@Vezelay when you give up sewing can I bagsy your pattern stash please.  You always find ones that are just right for me.  You look longer legged than me but otherwise pretty much a body double.
I really like that pattern, both the blouse and the dress and the blouse suits you really well.

Yes, it is rectangles joined into strips and the strips sewn together.  No seams to match  :) as the blocks are set like brickwork.

Are those fabrics in your picture the actual ones you have got for the job?

That is really elegant.  Like Nevis5 I would end up with beetroot on it even if I wasn't eating it.  I can't do uneven hems either, they just look wrong on me, I can't have the right proportions or something.

Technical Help / Re: Is there an easy fix for this?
« on: July 15, 2018, 10:40:18 AM »
As it is not a fitted or shaped skirt could you get away with just taking out the excess on the side seam without the zip.  So long as the end result is symmetrical, which you could achieve by folding in half vertically and following the same line for the seam as the side with the zip, it should look ok.

I take it the one Iminei has just received isn't yours then Lowena  :)

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the original turns up now.  The best way to find something you have lost is to replace it.

As Pearl says - and use a stitch marker to indicate where the round starts so you know when to change stitch.

Hmmm @Renegade Sewist  I think I might need a whip and mask to complete that ensemble.  :o
I was hospitalised many years ago when a mosquito bite caused an infection which caused an abcess in a lymph gland.  I had to have surgery and still bear the 3" scar in my groin.

Perhaps I should make myself some mesh trousers.  I've been wearing shorts for the last few weeks and my legs are covered in horse fly bites  :S

I love that Acorn.  I fancy doing a couple for our caravan.  I'd never come across quillows before you started on yours.

we could have a moan together about Elizabeth Hartman and her bl***y diagonal seams  :S
Doing last year's BOM s was a good exercise because it made me realise that I'm not a huge fan of diagonal seams.  I wouldn't avoid them bit I would steer clear of something that was triangle heavy.
