After handing in my last assignment, I'm finally back in the sewing room and plan to make oodles of dresses.
I finished the first one, Vogue 1410, and am in love with the pattern... there will be a few more, one of them in black lace.
So, here it is, in turquoise eyelat cotton

And the 'buttoned up' version - buttonholes at the hem and button at the side seam that turn the dress into a knee-length bubble dress

Glad your assignments are over. This is a fabulous dress @Manuela .The colour is really lovely. I love this pattern. It is realky simple but so effective. I've made two versions and will definitely do more. Lynn Mizono is such a good designer. I wish that Vogue would commission more designs from her.

It's a wonderful pattern, and looks radically different with every fabric change- I was wearing a very soft drapey viscose version just few days ago, and I'm eyeing the pinstripe linen version today. You'll end up with a collection no doubt! I like the fact that it looks good on its own or layered as a pinafore dress
-
I had that pattern a few years but not made it up yet...it may go in the SWAKOP
-
It looks lovely in the eyelet cotton. Every time I see one of these I think I must buy the pattern.

Do it, it's easy peasy sewing on top of it :)
-
That's super :)
The only thing that puts me off making that pattern is I don't wear dresses! You can't really wear trainers with dresses can you, and I don't wear anything else (apart from very supportive sporty looking Salomon flip flops) as I have such delicate and sensitive feet. #nohardskinhere

I need to think about these sorts of designs for next summer. Hard to think about summer stuff though, when its finally decided to turn cold.
-
The shirt i.e. buttoned version of this dress would be great with leggings @Bodgeitandscarper .
-
That's fabulous, it looks like it will be so cool too.
-
I think you can wear trainers with this sort of dress, tennis shoe style trainers.
It's a very comfy dress. I have one.
-
Still warm from ironing, here is the next one :D
This is Tessuti's Yuke dress. Love that pattern too, the pocket instructions for inseam pockets are the best I've come across so far, and they taught this old dog a new trick. The fabric is an embroidered denim from Marcy Tilton.

Wow, that's lovely too, Manuela. That fabric is super.
-
Wow, Manuela, you're certainly making up for lost time! Love both those dresses, and the fabrics are just gorgeous. Might have to think about that Mizono pattern myself - keep looking at it and wibble-wobbling about pressing the 'buy' button....
-
Wait until the next Vogue sale, @Nevis5 !
-
Oh don't worry @Tamnymore! I never pay full price for Vogue patterns, I love them but they are so expensive (mind you, most indies seem even worse for very basic designs). It will just go on my 'maybe' list until the sales happen....

what buttoned version? What have I missed?
-
DF, it's the buttons on the hem that turns it into a bubble hem ... Manuela has that as the third photo on the first page.
-
ah gotcha- I rarely use that on mine as I find it hobbles me a bit and I like the ankle length versions best
-
I definitely couldn't do hobble, so I'll pass on that pattern.
I guess white tennis shoes and canvas shoes work ok, but my "trainers" are really Salmon walking shoes, so definitely don't go with a frock.
Another fabulous fabric there, Manuela, I'm very envious of all the lovely ones you get.
-
Nest one up, another version of Vogue 1496. The fabric is an actual patchwork denim from Fabric.com...

Love the effect on the back, thinking about making this in a striped fabric as welll.

That's lovely, Manuela. Is it easy to walk in?

Yep, it's only knee-length :)

What great dresses! The McCalls one is my favourite. I would never have thought of using an eyelet cotton for that. It looks wonderful! I'm busy sewing boring summer dresses at the moment....as suited to my age and height, but I really need to branch out more and wear some of my more unusual ones out of the house :o

It's a public holiday today, Buddha's birthday - I spent the time wisely making another dress.
The fabric is a fairly tightly woven black seersucker, a surprise find at the street marked for £2.- per yard :loveit:

I finished the first of two lace dresses - had this butterfly dress for about two years and couldn't make my mind up what to make from it. The lace is underlined with cotton batiste and the dress is lined with Bemberg - it'll get a lot of wear during the summer.

very pretty, very demure

You get some lovely fabrics in Hong Kong.

Earlier this week I finished Vogue 1496 in Marcy Tilton a lace I bought last year. The dress is fully lined with Bemberg.

Oh how I would like to wear simple shift dresses.....I look like a bag of spuds in that style.
Lovely dresses.
-
That would be perfect for my upcoming funeral....
Beautiful as usual Manuela.

Ooh I like the lace dresses! I would be hopeless wearing those though, probably wouldn't even get off the hanger without snagging or ripping them :[ but they are absolutely beautiful. Hope you enjoy wearing them, @Manuela :toast:

Another summer dress finished. The fabric is a cotton sateen with a bit of stretch from Marcy Tilton. My initial idea was to play with the stripes, however the stretch element in the fabric prevented me from doing so. Thus I decided on nice & wasy and comfortable with a slanted hem.
