Fun with Fabric / Re: Jersey fabric

Thanks very much, I think Vicose jersey is what I'm looking for and Minerva Crafts has one with loads of colours, but at the moment they are mostly out of stock.

Fun with Fabric / Jersey fabric
« on: June 02, 2019, 14:02:52 PM »
I'm looking for some jersey fabric to make a smart top. I would like it to have a good drape and nice finish, not too t-shirty.

The top also needs two different colours, so I need to find something that comes in a good range of colours so that I can choose two that look good together.

Can anyone advise me

1. What type of fabric should I look for

2. Are there any online suppliers that would have a good range of colours that I could get samples from. There are not many good fabric shops near me, and I could possibly get to London, but would prefer to buy online.

Thank you.

Publications / Re: Burda magazine subscription offer

Thank you very much for this. I used to get the magazine years ago, and have been trying to make my mind up whether to subscribe again, and this made my mind up. Particularly as where I live it's almost impossible to get a copy.

@Farrener
M&M are in Rye and do workshops on some of their patterns.

I think there's one for the Parka.

Ooh, thank you for that. Some new patterns there, love the Box Box dress.  I’d love to spend a weekend at M&M making something.

Merchant & Mills have two jackets:

The Forman
The Ottoline

I have not made either, but have been thinking about it.

The Haberdashery / Buttons for Jeans
« on: March 23, 2019, 13:22:46 PM »
I'm making some denim trousers (True Bias Lander Pants). They do up with visible buttons at the front.

I want to buy jeans buttons for them, and I also need to be able to order them and get them quite quickly.

Can anyone recommend a source, a particular type, anything to avoid. I'm a bit lost.

This is a link the the pattern (link removed)

Thank you.

Sewing Spaces and Furniture / Re: Best type of Pegboard

I have also been looking at pegboards, and think this company looks OK.

I haven't ordered anything myself, just been looking.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / Re: New Overlocker Best Thread
« on: March 04, 2019, 17:59:21 PM »
Thank you so much for all these replies. There's a lot more to think about than I had realised.

I'm reassured that I can use 'normal' thread of the correct colour on the left.

Initially I will be using it to make stretchy clothes for myself, and for finishing edges. I do plan to try active wear, but have no immediate plans for making delicate items.

Overlockers & Coverstitchers / New Overlocker Best Thread

Hello

I've just bought a Janome 6234 XL Overlocker, and I need to buy thread. Where is the best place to buy this online? What should I expect to pay?

Thanks

Hi

I have just bought some printed French Terry from the Stoff & Stil website (link removed) and I'm really delighted with the quality - it's lovely. I ordered matching thread which matches perfectly. The only slight disappointment is that the colour isn't exactly as I had hoped, but I should have ordered a sample.
