The Haberdashery / Re: Fine line marking?
« on: April 10, 2024, 23:02:21 PM »
On lighter coloured fabrics I use Frixion pens - I think a hair dryer might well be hot enough to remove the marks. You need to try it on a spare bit of fabric first though because it sometimes leaves a "shadow" of itself which doesn't disappear.
On darker colours I use a sliver of soap which will sponge off. Not for silky fabrics though, although it doesn't sound as if those are your thing!

Thank you @Morgan - that's helpful. I will just have to take it as it comes however - it was a donation to the Mens Shed and whatever I give them for it goes into their funds. I am assuming that any missing pieces will still be available. I've just looked a bit further into it and see that the Frister & Rossman company is now owned by SMD so I would think that it should be safe enough!

Sewing Machines / Frister & Rossman Euro 21

Does anyone know anything about this machine? There is one going spare - newly serviced - at the Mens Shed. Grand-daughter says she wants to learn how to sew and I thought I might get it for her. I don't, however, want to get involved if it's likely to cause me problems!

You should be able to "like" replies. Every once it while it tells you you have already done when you haven't but that's not usual.

Fun with Fabric / Re: WBL Batik query

What I would do is cut an exact 10cm square from one corner and wash it in a quick cool wash in the machine to see how it comes out. Press it and measure again. You could cut 2 squares and handwash the other one to compare.

Thank you @Celia ! Exactly what I needed. I don't mind paying for a new one but didn't want to do it and then be told I didn't need to!

I thought Husqvarna machines were now made by Janome? Mine certainly was (Emerald 118). It's a few years old now but the quality is excellent.

Sewing Machines / In need of a service!
« on: March 06, 2024, 23:16:59 PM »
I bought my Elna Experience 520s during Lockdown and it has been in nearly constant use ever since - I love the machine. It is now though, I think, in need of a service. My problem is that I don't have anywhere nearby that I can get it done. I can use my other machine, Husqvarna Emerald 118, but it doesn't have one step buttonholes. One of the problems with the Elna, I have found this week, is that I sometimes press down on the foot control but nothing happens. It will go when I press it again but the frequency is increasing. Does anyone know enough about foot controls to know what the problem might be? I can get a new foot control for about £40 but don't want to do this if it's a simple thing wrong with it.

I have received my beeautiful buttons already and what a lovely package they made! Wonderfully mounted on a fabric patch (? correct term) . I will feel guilty cutting them off. I have a jacket nearly finished for 3 of them though. I can recommend this button seller whole- heartedly!

@Iminei  I'd like the entire 5th row down please. The Roman ones - 2 lots of 4.
