Essential Tips for Sewing Checks and Tartans
B****r! I have just cut out my tartan skirt for the red comp but not sure I will get it done by deadline. I should have waited :'( :'(
Maybe this year I should cut into that taupe and cadet blue tartan? I've improved my pattern patching skills so could probably handle it.
Looked at my stash and I have some more tartan and checked fabric so I am in. Does the second picture qualify as checked?

I always find American and Canadian tartans amazing. On a trip to Nova Scotia a few years ago I came back with a few pieces. Nova Scotia seemed more Scottish than Scotand (bagpipes anyone?) - sort of 'Gaelier than thou' 0_0
@SewRuthieSews, I can see that fabric as a gored midi skirt... That would brighten up any dull day in winter and would go well with a knit top or sweater and a pair of boots.I noticed Janet has the same fabric in her picture on page 2.
@Manuela Ralston fabrics have something very similar. here (https://ralstonfabrics.co.uk/collections/patterned-fabrics/products/clearance-patchwork-patterned-tartan-printed-needlecord-fabric-navy-green-pattern)@Manuela That is were I got it from. Although it is cord it is a very fine, nearly smooth cord. It is also light weight so I lined the skirt to give it more body.
I do like the lining, so nice to have a bit of a dazzle inside. I rather fancied a cape - I have the pattern, but didn't know what it would be worn with - what are you planning?

Something not too heavy but will keep a chill off whilst we walk to the pub/restaurant/friends and easy to put over the back of a chair (have you noticed there never seems to be anywhere to hang coats these days).
