In the wardrobe / Re: Mood Patterns
« on: Today at 11:53:53 »
@Missie can you check on https://sewing.patternreview.com/

You can search for reviews for individual companies and whilst some reviews are either overly effusive or very picky I find that you can usually get a feel for the quality of the patterns.

Meanwhile I’m off to look at Mood Patterns as I’ve not come across them before.

In the wardrobe / Re: Wardrobe switchover time?

I keep thinking it’s time to put the winter coat away, but then I do the school pickup with a twenty min wait between Key Stage  1 and Key Stage 2, definitely not the right time yet.

Hi, I'm new... / Re: New chap settling in.

Welcome @TangledBloke , just be aware some of us understand a lot less than others.

There is an immense depth of knowledge here, someone will usually have the answer somewhere.

Patterns Discussion / Re: What size to make?
« on: April 04, 2024, 21:21:57 PM »
As @Lachica says you need to measure the pattern pieces and always remember that pattern size numbers bear no relation to ready to wear size numbers.  I can be a 14 in one pattern company and a 20 in another. RTW I am usually a size 16.

Fun with Fabric / Kraft tex
« on: April 01, 2024, 12:46:22 PM »
Has anyone used Kraft tex?

I want to make DH a wallet. I’ve worked out the dimensions and layout but if I use the leather I have, it will be quite thick and he wants a really thin one.  He only carries notes, a couple of cards and his bus pass.

Reading up on Kraft tex makes it sound ideal as I won’t have to finish the edges which will cut down on bulk.

I think it’s the fact that it’s made of paper that has me worried.

Sewalongs and Competitions / Re: Weekly Sewing Club Wednesdays 2-4pm

@Elnnina I do what Helen M does when faced with narrow sleeves etc. Turn the garment inside out and then stitch from inside of the sleeve. Much easier than trying to use a free arm on a narrow opening.
I’ve heard it called sewing on the inside of the teacup.
Sounds weird but once you’ve done it it’s so much easier.

Patterns Discussion / Re: Has anyone tried Spencer Ogg patterns
« on: March 18, 2024, 09:23:13 AM »
Absolutely love Spencer Ogg patterns @Celia .

They are very well drafted and the instructions are excellent. She has a detailed instruction list with good photos and most patterns have a well produced video tutorial.

I haven’t sewn the Starlight myself but I’ve done loads of others. I’ve just finished the https://www.spencerogg.com/product/boothstown-backpack/ in leather using my new HD9 and am delighted with it.

Diane has a YouTube channel with lots of mini tutorials so you could check that out first.

Having done several bags by other designers, of varying quality, I usually look at Diane’s patterns first

@Sheilago I love your layout, can I copy it?

It makes something scrappy look so much more pulled together.

I saw this & I thought you may be interested! / Re: Stash Hub

Interesting but by the time I’d have entered all my stash I could have sewn up lots of it

That app is for much more organised people than me.
